 |
|
Hi all, had my first minor bump today on the way home, filtering on the motorway through very slow moving traffic, and I have no idea how to proceed.
In middle lane, see traffic has slowed, shoulder check, move in between 1&2, pass one car, and as i do there is another car pulling into lane one, I hit the brakes but don't quite stop in time, we collide (my fairing, his read quarter) Damage to my bike is virtually nothing - scuffed off an inch of paint on my fairing, his car has a dent and paint transfer.
I have it on helmet cam, he did have his indicator on, I was doing maybe 35 or so when I reacted, maybe 5mph at point of impact. The word 'filtering' was alien to him.
What on earth do I do? Do I contact my insurance? a specialist motorcycle lawyer? or just wait for his insurer to contact mine?
If anyone has had a similar accident what can I expect? 50/50 at best?
Thanks in advance for you advice.

I'm not saying that you're completely at fault, but it's something that you might consider saying.
Because if any blame goes towards you then you'll have an "at fault" accident to declare for the next 5 years. From what you've said, I can't imagine that it'll be no-faulted.
So if your damage is minimal, then you could be the bigger man and say "Look, it was totally my fault, I was going too fast, he did indicate, I didn't give him enough time to see me, I didn't react quickly enough, I ran into the back of him. Sort the chap out, please."
No sense in both of you getting nobbed by the Insurance Cartel, right? ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Is that filtering ? or weaving in and out of traffic at speed ? seems like your situation was waiting to happen with all that space around and cars looking for the faster lanes... ____________________ Fuelly My Z1000SX

Oh, see now I have to see it.
If it's not fit to be shown, please do give serious consideration to manning up and taking it on the chin. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Sit tight, do nothing, just wait - he might decide the dent is nothing and won't bother with it. If you're lucky. ____________________ Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter won't mind - Dr. Seuss |

Sounds like a result, huzzah for good old fashioned civilised decency.
Thread useless without video. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
