Yes. I run one with 8GB of ram, a DVD drive and WHS2011.
Lozzy and my laptops are set up for auto back ups, it runs my film library and streams to everything in the house often running 3 streams without any noticeable degradation in quality.
Has 4 drive caddies an internal bootable USB and an external bootable Esata so can be used with lets say 2 2.5inch SSD's as the bootable disc in raid hidden where the DVD drive goes and a further 4x4tb SATA 3.5 discs in the caddies.
Doesn't have USB3.0 or sound and only VGA but a USB3.0 card is only £7 and just about any low power HDMI low profile card will work as well.
Best bit is it pulls very very little power, around 35w so less than a light bulb at idle and considerably less than a NAS.

If your planning on getting one of them there's usually some rebate going from HP so a lot do the time they can be had for around £100. Although the new version, the gen 8 is out now so soon the older ones should get cheaper.
https://www8.hp.com/uk/en/products/proliant-servers/product-detail.html?oid=5379860
They are good for ESXI and can run a few VMs easily, run freeNAS etc ____________________ cbt:4/7/12 theory:16/7/12 module 1:12/8/12 module 2: ? |

I've had 3 of the earlier HP Media Smart Servers.
The Intel ones are absolutely wonderful things, doubly so if you are willing to hose the warranty. Slot in a Q8200S and you get a monumental performance increase for very little hassle or money.
The AMD variants by comparison do not have the same upgrade potential, not so much of an issue for backups and streaming to other PCs and such, but it may haunt you if you start asking it to transcode high bit rate video.
Personally, look around for an EX490 or EX495 first.
As Sickpup mentions, the power consumption of these is hugely impressive. My modded Core 2 Quad used less power at the plug whilst running with all 4 disks spinning than my Lenovo TD200 uses whilst it's switched off ____________________ 2010 Triumph 1050 Sprint ST |

Honestly? My knowledge is limited and outdated. Was considering a microserver delivering content over a network to something like a roku box as I'm not changing my non smart TV, it works perfectly, NAS effect. Or just slotting it under the TV and acting as a NAS and media PC to cut out the middleman.
Never played with the pi so it is something else to consider, need to do moar reading ____________________ Honda Varadero >> Triumph Speed Four >> Honda CBR1100xx |

Why do you need a 250gb ssd for an operating system that is less than 5gb?
That USB stick will be good for the pi |
