Talk to me about race Rearsets on a road bike...

Hi All,

I've just bought a 2003 R1 (Injection model, full Akra system, Power commander etc.) and it came with the standard rearsets on the bike, however it also came with a set of harris rearsets in a box.

I like the idea of adjustable rearsets, but the idea of a fixed peg kind of worries me as well if it goes down the road.

So, should I fit them or sell them? Pros/Cons?

If you crash an R1 on the road the least of your worries will be a bent footrest bracket

I thought the rearsets on Paddy's R1 were shit though. Really uncomfortable.

I have rearsets (Arata) on my ZRX and could care less about what they do if I bin the bike; I'm sure there would be far more significant other damage to worry about.

Not a poll-worthy question.

1. Fit rearsets
2. Are they more comfortable? Do they make you feel more like Rossi? As it's a road bike the extra ground clearance offered is irrelevant.

If the answer is yes, keep them. If no, sell them.

i had gillies rearsets on my 07 R1 didnt like so i sold them and bought some standard ones.
despite me adjustin them they just didnt feel right to me, most bumps made my feet come off the pegs when i had boots on

I loved the gillies on old 05 R1 tho they were perfect

I had Gilles rear sets on my busa. Despite my feet being higher they were actually more comfortable the the standard pegs.

Hi

I have Harris rear sets on the Bandit. They are less comfy, but then they are as high as I can get them for when I was doing top speed runs on it. So pretty much self inflicted discomfort.

To an extent a solid footrest acts as a crash bung.

I have Harris rearsets fitted to my 5JJ R1

The previous owner fitted them and gave me the OEM parts so that I could put it back to standard if I wished.But having ridden around France recently with them in the most rearward/highest position,they are comfortable over long distances,with daily mileages of 500+ even though I am 5'10"

Worth fitting other stuff which helps to prevent case damage
