Can't help you with the models you've listed, but I owned a 2011 from brand new and put around 6500-7000 miles on it during the year I owned it - rode it daily through the entire array of British weather.

Bike was awesome, couldn't fault it at all. Didn't have a single problem, not even a 'what was that' moment.

Comes with a steering damper as standard Thumbs Up

I purposely went for an (05) 06 636, as IMHO it is the sexiest zx6r(r) there is.

Most important is this - of course Razz

But yes, i'd go for an 05/06 personally [as I did] - i've been on an 07 and didn't notice any difference, although perhaps taking it on a track etc might leave a bit more comparison to be made.

Can be a fair bit cheaper than the 07 or 08 ZX's as well Thumbs Up you can get some bargains if you take your time and keep an eye out - seem to hold their value fairly well too going by the nearly 4 years i've had mine now.

Mines been very reliable - main common issues are the CCT can need replacing, which mine did earlier this year but not majorly expensive. Also the exhaust valve on the stock exhaust which i've still got is prone to seizing up.

Stock 120/65 tyres on the front can make it a pain to find good value sets as well - I just use a 120/70 on mine now.

05 for a bargain, 06 for wear and tear, and general newer version, but practically the same bike. Check mileage of course.

Butterfly valve can be an arse, but if you change the can as most do, you'll have the FI light to contend with....just buy a servo buddy, and plug that in instead of the servo motor.

Chances are if you are looking for an 05/06 it'll probably have a servo buddy on it, and if you have electric tape over the FI light, then it's potentially an easy and cheap fix.

07 they stopped making the 636 also, something to consider....I could've gone with a newer 636, but didn't like the aesthetics of the stubby low down can.

Under seat exhaust and free winter butt warming FTW.

Some of the 05s don't have a slipper clutch, is that right?

I looked at a few before I was made redundant from my last job.

Got an Xt600e for commuting and buggering about now. Next step is sell the Hornet and get the Kwak. I'll be looking for an 05-06.

Haven't heard of them not having one personally - I think the European and US models both come with one from the factory as standard.

Sure I read it was a mid model update along with another fix. Can't find anything on it though so I'm probably talking pish.

2003/2004 model the slipper clutch has been standard on the 600's (RR), but was introduced on the 636 on the 05/06 models onwards. That means the earlier 636's don't have them, which is another reason to go 05/06 onwards. 07-12 = no 636 though, and the 2013 model looks pants by comparison, but that view is subjective. (and biased, but mostly subjective as I went for the 06 over the 2013 based purely on aesthetics)

J and a1 636 models for comfort

B1 and B2 models are loony

C1 and C6 were the fastest of the 636

P7 slower than the C as they lost the 36 cc's, unsure when the 600's got back to the sort of power the 636 had

I've had an F2, J1 and C6, the C6 was a missile and would be the model I would have again (with some higher bars!)

As above, if it's an all round bike I'd try and find a good condition A1p. Will be a cheaper bike to buy and insure and will be a much better bike for all round daily riding.

Cheers for the response guys

Also I've been told you need a steering damper on kwaks cause they like to wobble

Is this true or just on some models.... I believe Kawasaki don't fit them as standard?

Cheers

Never needed one personally. I've done nearly 30k on mine and one track day so far - never had an issue, but I guess it depends how you ride perhaps. I have seen mentioned on other forums a fair few times that the ZX10's of the same era benefit from one, but thats purely going by other peoples comments and may be entirely down to personal-riding again.

As above.
I do not ride economically and I've never had a problem.

Personally, I would go for the R9F onwards. Bought mine last year completely mint with only 2000 miles for £4350. Just as fast as a C1H but smoother box, better suspension and looks great. Stock damper is a bit of a gimick, needs re-vavling for track use.

I've got a 08 P8F and love it, plenty of go and handles very well. I had an old G2 before and the difference between the 1998 bike and the 2008 is quite vast. The 08 is lighter, more nimble and quicker.

Ridden in isolation you'll be happy with any of the zx6r's from the last 6 or 7 years. Even ridden back to back you'll probably not notice a vast difference especially on the road.

Thumbs Up
