I got passed this evening by a chap on a BMW GS filtering through light traffic on the M60 clockwise while stood up (I was slowing for a slip-road)

Anyone on here?

I'd have stood up too... I reckon that trying to pass a welshman would make ones eyes water, probably require stitches too Laughing

The only time I've ever felt the need to stand up on the footrests is when going over speed bumps not wanting to slow down to 20mph, can't imagine why BMW guy was doing it...

Standing up gives you a much better view of the traffic ahead. I often do it to see over 4x4's

I sometimes stand to get a bit more comfort on the potholed welsh lanes I have to ride down.

Yes but that won't be visible whilst in a seated position.

I think it's something with GS riders... Saw a guy on his GS riding while stood up around my area. Maybe it's some sort of condition?

Probably Charley Boorman - who are we to comment on such skillful adventuring - us mere mortals on the commute, compared to these BMW riding adventurers Sad

To be honest though he might of just been Joe Bloggs stretching or looking over traffic on the commute.
