Hi, now the colder weather looks set to return I've been thinking about adding a cold weather fuel additive to my tank after someone told me it can greatly reduce engine wear when starting on cold mornings.
Any of you guys do this already/reccommend it?
And more to the point where the hell do you buy it from...can't seem to find it anywhere.
Cheers.

It may not be necessary. The petrol you get from the pump is changed during the year, so that it copes better with the weather conditions. If you want to reduce wear, you could consider using an oil that is thinner at low temperatures.

Hi

Not heard of any fuel additives doing that. There are plenty around intended to help prevent carb icing.

What is probably best to do if you are worried about it is to change the oil for the thinner spec stuff that is mentioned in your owners handbook for cold weather.

All the best

I'd just ride it.

Are you planning on keeping this bike for over 100,000 miles?

If not, the marginal wear difference is best ignored. Metal is tough stuff.

Just warm it up properly and ride it.

Hi

Main purpose of the fuel stabilisors is to stop the petrol going off when stored over the winter.

All the best

From my earlier post on fuel stabilisers Silkolene FST may held reduce engine wear...

I 've been told about Silkolene FST but is this just for carb icing or is it a stabiliser as well (stops petrol left in carbs from turning to gunk). The Silkolene site doesn't say it's a stabiliser as such...
