Pretty sobering looking at the accidents on my route to work. Although there is not quite as many as I thought there would be.

10 points if you can spot your own! Confused

On my route to work, one motorcyclist has died while 2 pedestrians and about 5 car drivers died.

Can I use these select statistics to prove Motorbikes are safest?

I found the statistic that motorcycles are only involved in 1% of accidents but 21% of deaths with the majority at weekends between 12:00 and 18:00 quite interesting.

It tally's up with my experience of driving at weekends where is seems every numpty is out to get you. During the commute in the week its like drivers are more aware of bikers.

There's one by me on a hill, near the top.
If the dot's accurate there's a horrible groove up there that tramlines you. I learned quite quickly that you have to watch it up there.

I have found a couple of those between the 2nd and 3rd lane on the M4, if you don't know about it it can catch you off guard while filtering.

Nil point. Dance!

However, on 8:37am on Wednesday 3rd November 2004, a 38 year old biker died on the M8 in fine weather in an incident involving two cars. Crying or Very sad

Actually, it looks like he died twice, about two miles apart. Looong slide? Thinking

(May be making a point about trusting statistics).

Doesn't seem to be up to date, a lad and his girlfriend who I used to go with to a local bike meet with had a fatal bike crash near Swalwell in Gateshead last year but no sign of that.

Also no blips in Bishop Auckland even though there were 2 last year alone that I know of (one was a Trike so don't know if that classes as something else).

Meh...it doesn't cover the Isle of Man, otherwise I'd have had two on there. Neither of them fatal though. Wink

I did have a very lucky escape yesterday evening however, here in the UK, when I had a pretty major rear slide out on a roundabout, followed by a front end wobble after throwing my bike upright by putting my foot down to stop it lowsiding. Proper sh!t me up it did. Couldn't bring myself to lean the bike at all on the way home after that. Neutral

I heard a good statistic recently.

1200 or so people die on the roads every year. Shitting tons of money spent making cars and roads "safer".

6000 or so people suicide every year.
