Hi,

Not sure anyone can help me but here it goes...

Got a road legal Blue Flame Exhaust and have found it really isn't that much different to the stock exhaust (sound wise).

I am led to believe it has removeable baffles which will make it sound sweet! For track use of course.

Can anyone tell me how you remove these baffles?

Cheers
Mat

haven't looked at many bike racing pipes...but...

If you're lucky it might have bolts or screws near the cap of the exhaust, you should be able to just unfasten them to gain access to the baffle material. Take it out. And then re-fasten the end-piece.

The other, more time consuming option, is that the 'cap' will be riveted into place. If this is the case you have to drill out the rivets in order to remove the cap to gain access to the baffle material. Once this is done you'll need to use pop-rivets (and a pop rivet gun) to re-secure the end piece back into place.

...and I guess in some cases, they're not made to be tampered with at all.

All depends what you've got though. Confused

If it's not obvious, then it probably won't be very straightforward...or reversible. Got any pictures of the end of the can?

I thought they were riveted in...

My dads "ART" can has like no baffels as such. Its like a straight through with a thinner pipe up the middle with LOADS of holes in, and then fiberglass around it (Jus like a giant version of a moped end can)

Is that wat all bike exhausts are like Laughing and have I jus made myself look like mr state the obvious!

Nope, that's a simple straight through system. I don't think most bikes have straight through exhausts, because they mostly wouldn't pass the drive by noise test with one on. Baffling obstructs the exhaust gas, but in doing so obstructs the sound waves.

Exhaust silencers are a nasty little part of one of my exams in a couple of days. Sad

The blueflame cans have a small remoavable baffle. You will need a pair of long nose pliers to remove/install the baffle. You should be able to see two small pieces of wire sicking out from the edge of the hole in the end of the can. Squeeze these together with the pliers and a whole loop will become visible, retract the pliers while holding the two wires together to extract the loop. The metal baffle should now slide out turning it into a race can. If you have the twin outlet design you can choose to remove one of both the baffels depending on how much sound you want.
If you have any problems contact blueflame direct as they have very good customer service, I also beleave there is a video on their website of a bike which shows them remove the baffel halfway through so show the difference.

I had Remus cans with removable baffles on my TL1000, they were riveted in initally, you drill trough the rivet and then they are held in by an allen bolt and were easy to remove and refit.
