Dad just bought a new one of these (I know bcf hates new bikes but I have to admit it looks awesome).

Anyway, anybody got one? What should he look out for in terms of known issues and what are common sensible modifications?

Since his last bike was belt drive I think he is going to want a scottoiler or similar - are these easy to fit?

Also will want a tank bag - what works or doesn't work with the tank?

Scottoilers are easy to fit, why a tank bag when he has panniers big enough to fit Maddy and 3 illegals in?

Why do they make all exhausts on new bikes look as nasty as that?

Love the colour

Panniers on these are the same as on mine and they are quite big but
I think on these bikes they help make the dimensions of the Z1000 a little less front heavy.
The same as they do on my ER6F

Looks good to me, reports are generally ok. The only thing they seem to question is suspension but that probably personal and maybe a bit down the line when the OEM stuff is crapped out.

I know my elder bro hankers after one of these same ol story just money, I'd have one.

Only thing that puts me off these a bit was that the engine is derived from the ZX9, whilst that thing had some serious stomp, it was also annoyingly buzzy through the foot pegs.

Yeah but I'd go as far as to say that only the bored out ZX9 engine Z1000 was actually any good! It was also the nearest they ever got to making a good looking Z1000 too. I'd rather have one of those horrible orange 2003 ZX6R's that look like a deformed alien than one of these new Z1000's!

FZR400 (blown engine), ZXR750 (blown engine), ZX6R (accident), CBR600 which had engine issues after which I learned to change gear..., CBR900, CBR924 (stolen), CB600, CB1300 (everything blew up), BMW K1300GT (written off, hit from rear while stationary), Bandit 1250 for a couple of months, Triumph Sprint ST 1050 (nicked) and somewhere in there, I wrote off a Ducati 748 at Cadwell.
