selling my bike

Hi All,

I have advertised my bike to sell it and so far in the past 2 month very few interests.

It is my first time dealing with sell of bike/car as usually will trade in .

I have waited almost 2 month and have dropped the price to the absolute maximum and still not much interest .

is that how bike sales are like generally ?

it is for my sv650.
It has not tax but moted it for 1 year.

You can get a newer, fully faired SV with half the mileage for less than £2k. Why would anybody want to pay more than that for yours?

When im looking for bikes or cars theres that many out there you need to make it appeal to a buyer, if theres no tax they cant jump on a nd ride away so just scroll to the next.

tax it and get a realistic price on it and it will sell.

Looks OK, but there are a lot of SVs out there.

The big problem for me is that it's done nearly 30,000 miles. There are plenty of garage queens with much less than that on them. I'd just keep scrolling.

The "extras" add the square root of sod all to the value. Challenge: find an SV of that age that hasn't had a parts catalogue thrown at it.

I agree about the VED. Also, if you give a test ride and it gets ANPR snapped, you're the one who will get the nastygram.

tl;dr version - you're asking too much. It's just not worth what you think it is.

You have an overinflated opinion of your bikes worth im afraid. SVs aren't exactly unicorns are they?

A no reserve eBay auction will give you a true market price.

I'd say the advert needs a little work, and it's a little over priced.

I bought it for £2600 and spent quite a bit on it plus I did change the tyre £130.

Looking around some dealers are selling theirs which is half decent for £2500.

What do you think is the price I should be adversiting it as ?

If I was looking at buying your SV I'd point out your Mullered yoke, it's dirty, not taxed, High mileage, Exhaust badge knackered.

Apart from those it's not a bad looking bike but as mentioned already there's a few of them about, and for your year and mileage you wouldn't see £1700 from me let alone £2100.

By the looks of it, you'll be lucky to get much more than £1500 for it unfortunately.

If you can't tax it (because it's no longer insured and sorned), then mention that in your ad and work the cost of the tax out of the price.

When I sold my scooter I majorly overvalued it at first. Didn't get a bite for ages. Then adjusted the price and threw in an old disc lock and all of a sudden it was sold.

Just a small note - potential buyers are put off by those sort of photos, as the blurry effect is often used by shysters trying to hide something...

What you spent on it and what it cost you has no relevance on worth, read 10 sale ads for an sv of around the same year and spec (private ads not dealers) and compare prices/milage/condition etc then you will have an idea what yours is worth

It's possible that somebody pays higher price if a bike is really in good condition with low miles.

I paid a lot for my bike, but it was truly mint with 6k miles on the clock and locally so I had no hassle to travel further + my limited time doesn't allow me to view many bikes anyway. So based on circumstances it is possible to sell for higher price.

But that's not your case I'm afraid.

Rule of motorbiking; the bike you want next holds its value like a Fabergé egg, the bike you own at the moment depreciates like a condom after the deed.

The only exceptions are bikes so rare only a handful of people managed to get one, and even then only if they're never actually ridden.

I feel your pain though, I'm trying to sell my BMW at the moment and even pricing it under everyone else i'm still having no interest. Riding season is coming to an end too, so all the fairweather bikers will be hanging up their gear for the year and looking at cars instead.

Seems to me the SV curse strikes again. My mate lost 1000 pounds selling his SV, on fresh tyres. I called him stupid, he called me stupid, and he never got a bike again.

Its only worth paying top dollar for a bike if it really is exceptional and you want to keep it for years. This has been my philosophy and if you take out the cost of running it, consumables etc you usually get back more than you paid. For anything else or 'run of the mill' you have to be canny/lucky to break even imo. Even doing a bike up costs you more than you get for it unless it happens to be one that goes silly price-wise e.g. 250 two stroke or 70s/80s Jap trail bike.

Accept the loss, sell it for whatever you can and move on....
