No, they have had them ages, like 5 years. Before I done my CBT anyway. Hideously expensive back then, probably more so now.


Ducati have airbags, thats the only thing new.

Dissapoint. I was expecting more from an EW link. Id prefer these airbags

What isn't new is that they still have those lovely rattly sounding dry clutches and require more service work at shorter intervals than most of the other big bike makers. I assume they must be bags of fun to ride and that goes some way to them being money pits that make Ducati lots of profit.

The only bike that broke during the euro trip I did this year apart from the one that wheelied itself into oblivion, was the very new, very expensive, very pristine and cared for Ducati. Lovely bike to look at and looked lovely to ride but - it had clutch problems. Little faith in them after that Laughing

Airbags though - I wouldn't mind one if they weren't so damn expensive. I would however seriously consider paying for one if it inflated into one of these so I could bounce over rows of cars laughing after a SMIDSY

Yep, not the first time I've heard something like this or even the second. The guy who does sound/PA for my band's bigger gigs has a Ducati, I forget which, and around 10K it required a clutch and flywheel replacement because it apparently disintegrated at high speed. Doesn't inspire confidence does it?

It is a step in the right direction, my air bag vest wouldn't have had chance to inflate like in the crash video, the tether will not have pulled it out before I've hit the car.

They should be an open communication standard between the bike and clothing so other manufactures can get in on the action, we don't want a situation where one is locked in to Suzuki or Ducati because you've bought all their expensive gear, or you take a X manufacture equipped rider pillion and during a smash their airbag does sweet FA because it cannot talk to your bike you bounce on your merry way and they are all messed up despite having a jacket with an airbag, that may have helped lessen their injuries.

The airbags could be extended to other areas like pelvis or what have you, all the bike needs to do is remotely issue a command to fire and any listening paired device should do what ever it needs to.

Just looks like something that can cause more damage than it prevents personally. I think the foam thing from demolition man would be a better idea. Although not sure how that would work; I'm no engineer or mechanic.
