hi ive got a problm with a bike i just bought its a vulcan custom 125 03 reg and it wont start on the electric or kick start ive had the carb of and it clean and the spark plug has a strong spark and the fuel line is clear any ideas would be much apreciated

That's an XF125L-4B, right? Same as the Pioneer Nevada, 156/157FMI pushrod CG copy engine? Not much to go wrong.


#1 Compression. Thumb test if nothing better to hand, see if it's got any.

#2 Fuelling is way off because:

#2.1 Pilot jet has been dicked around with.
#2.2 Cone filter and straight through exhaust has been fitted and the jetting hasn't been adjusted.
#2.2 Float is stuck (up or down).
#2.3 Choke isn't working.

#3 Spark timing is off.

well its had mufflers put on the exaust and i dont no how to check for compression and the spark seemed even whn i checked it and how do i no what the screw should be set?

ive got no idea what carb it is and its 2 pipes and no there curved thn the last 14inches ar straight then mufflers over the top and ok ill giv it ago with the screw but i cant get into idle so do i just try it all the way in then try and turn it over and go on like that?

1 too add to rogers list... check the inlet manifold (rubber thing between carb and engine) doesn't have tears in it. Fairly common for Chinese bikes, you can bodge it if it is by wrapping it with electrical tape (the really sticky, stretchy stuff).
