 |
|
Hi All,
I have changed my brake pads and confused which way should the spring be placed on the back of the pds.
it has an arrow pointing up on the spring or metal peice as per the picture but no arrows or anything on the calipers.
so I checked it and it seems to fit both way .
I went with the arrow pointing up toward the top of the caliper.
can someone please advice what is the job of the metal peice and which way it should be fit in ?
if done wrong , can it have a fatal result ?

The pads shouldn't be a tight fit in the caliper and the pin(s) will hold them securely. The spring is there to stop them rattling and chattering when braking.
If it physically fits either way, then it probably doesn't matter - but arrows usually point upwards, forwards, or in the direction of rotation.
Hope this helps, but see if there's a YouTube vid for someone doing the job on your model of bike, or get it checked with a dealer. ____________________ Honda Varadero XL125(V8)

You could try a slight chamfer on the edges of each pad, but you probably won't ever get it noise-free for any length of time as the disc will amplify the smallest sound. ____________________ Honda Varadero XL125(V8)
