It's becomming more and more apparent and worrying to me that my wiring looms / harness is a complete mess.

Everything seems to be working just now, but things are rubbing against things they likely shouldnt be getting so familiar with.

Is it normal to have bunches of wires and conecters all taped up but left dangling about?
Is it normal for the fuse box to be floating about in mid air or would it normally have been secured somehow?

Any tips welcome. I'm not sure if I should crack on, take the fairings off and try to tidy it up, or if I should just zip tie the worst offenders to something out of the way of moving parts and forget it.

Anyway, heres some pics of the shambles. Hope it makes sense and any help is appreciated

Full loom's are cheap on ebay, I nearly replaced my RR-W loom when the wires into my starter relay fried. I was able to repair it. The repair cost me about 20 quid, looms started at that.

If everything is working and safe, you can use cable-ties to secure everything to the frame - but use 6mm or wider ties or they could cut through the harness under vibration.

If there is a potential for rubbing, you can use extra insulating tape on the harness, or self-adhesive foam strips on the frame.

I'm pretty sure the fuse box should be secured - either by screws or by snapping into a recess.

Move the handlebars from stop to stop to make sure nothing is getting stretched.

If you have some parts of the harness where water ingress might be a problem, use self-amalgamating tape or heat-shrink tubing.

Another tip for complex re-wiring jobs - get some of those plant marker strips from the garden centre, and use a Sharpie to label the sections that branch off, and cable-tie them in place.

I'm at work so cant see the images but connector blocks are an abomination. I'd be going through them one by one and soldering them and then covering with heatshrink tubing.

Either that or follow the loom swap as per wots.

I think I'll invest in some crimping kit and have a go at tidying it up and securing it.
I'll pop the fairings off and have a half decent go at it.
It's oil change and rear brake pads time so plenty of facing to do.

Thanks all Smile

Could be worth checking your local library. I've just done a little bike up for my ladyfriend and her son found diagrams of all the cable and wiring routes.

From your pics, I'd say that there's been a few bodgers in but agree with the others that looms can be cheap to replace if there's any doubt.

Sure you'll be able to tidy up what's there just don't cable tie down too tightly

Here you go, took these just now of my RRV. Hope it helps.
It looks like you are missing some plastic panels that the fuse box and relays get secured to.
