You need to pass your theory before you can book the tests, so if you want to do the DAS all in one go it would be best to do it first. Otherwise there could be gaps in your training while you wait for the theory pass. ____________________ Current Bikes:Honda 929RR Fireblade, Honda CD200 Benly (Project), Stomp Z2 140

Also make sure you book on the official website. A pal booked his for a Sunday on some random site, when the test centre was closed
I wasn't asked to show my certificate when taking my tests (but took it anyway), although you need it when booking. I thought schools wanted the theory done before you started the DAS. ____________________ Yamaha MT-03 '08 (crashed)

You can also do your theory before your CBT. I did.

Sadly, that is actually what the legislation says.
However, the theory that you must have passed to get your A2 remains valid for 2 years. So in practice it's only a problem if you want to do A in the period that's more than 2 years after your theory pass, but less than 2 years after your A2 pass.
And no, I don't see any practical purpose to needing an almanac and a slide rule to work this out. How is it keeping anyone safer? ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I still find the whole thing confusing - common sense tells me that you should have to pass the theory test before being allowed to take control of a vehicle on the road, but the official DSA and DVLA sites say you only need to pass the theory test before taking the practical test - you don't need it before or after CBT, and you don't need it to book a practical test - only immediately prior to taking the practical test!
It's not even clear if you need a theory test pass before you do Mod 1, because if you follow the hyperlink for 'practical test' it defines it as a test of your ability to ride safely on the road - nothing about weaving in and out of cones off-road.
I believe some riding schools insist on a theory test pass before lessons on a bigger bike (or a DAS course) because it is a requirement of their insurers.
So if anyone has done DAS, Mod 1 or Mod 2 recently, at what point did you have to prove your theory pass? ____________________ Honda Varadero XL125(V8)
