Can I put in any postcode in an insurance quote if it is third party only?

It will save me up to £3k.

Should you say you live there and visit friends in London and bike was stolen from there.

Probably not.

However... Whistle wing it.

I've known people to say they have 7 years no claims living in a nice quiet village when in fact they have less than half of that and live in the ghetto.

Yes.

Are you obtaining insurance fraudulently by doing so?

Probably.

At a minimum, you should ensure that you can produce a copy of your driving license with the same address as your insurance.

I leave any inferences to the reader.

assuming you don't have an accident, don't have to provide any docs then you'll be fine. However if you do, and your insurance company have reason to be suspicious (for the above reasons), you'll find your policy void. So that could lead to a nasty note left on your record or a hefty legal bill depending on what happens.

Is it worth it? Personally I'd only lie to that extent if I was riding illegally, and didn't want to set off ANPR cameras. I might say my bike was garaged if it was TPO, as insurance companies still want to charge you more despite not having to payout if it's stolen Confused

That is slightly more useful then no.

To what extent can I make my policy cheaper if its TPO, e.g. garaged etc...

While living as a semi student my address changed a lot and many students use their parents' address as their address. There wasn't room at my mum's house for me, but I may have used my missus' mum's house, which is in a lovely area, to get a cheaper quote. Since getting more vehicles though I make sure I'm legit.

So I can put any address that I can still pickup mail from?

But what about putting my address and then saying its kept at another address say 10 miles away?

Have you tried adding any named riders who are getting on a bit, had licenses for decades and no insurance incidents? My wife past her test in '98, myself just a couple of years ago, with her as a named rider the policy comes down by about £30 (on £300 policy).

However if you're looking to save £3k (exaggeration?), then you need to look at a crappier, slower, more boring and less nickable bike. Or pass you test 10 years ago, and get 10 years older...

I investigated that.

I looked at using my parents address (10 miles away, 3rd part only). If I told the insurance company I lived there, nice cheap quote,

When I put it that the bike was merely kept garaged there, quote was.........£30k! (I shit you not)

So I'm not sure insurance companies like vehicles being kept at different addresses!

I'd go for it. You're not insured for theft, therefore if it gets pinched then you won't be able to claim not matter where it is.

The only risk is if somebody crashes into it while it's parked. But if you're not bothered enough to insure for theft, I doubt this will affect you.

I'll try and put down my dad and see how that affects it.

And no exaggeration but it is for a Morris Minor (first car and not much that is older, slower and crappier). And I live in the London ghettos.

Also can someone please explain how NCDs works with bikes and cars. I have 3 years on bikes but I'm using that on my current policy, can I use it on a new car policy at the same time?

Simply put, no.

Some companies won't even accept bike no claims on a car policy, even if you aren't using the no claims for a bike!.

I've been on the phone to some insurance companies and some say "they'll take it into account" not sure what that means though.

They could check back through previous MOTs if they wanted to get arsey about declaring low mileage, but who's to say you haven't changed the clocks.... Rolling Eyes

Haha, yes just like that.

I'm 19 and my postcode is SE5

I'm definitely going to drive a Morris, long story short I'm getting one for free.

You can put anything you like. You can put SW1 1AA and ask Her Majesty to forward your mail.

Whether you should is a very different matter. Insurance companies are wise to your wily ways and it might not play out well for you if you can't keep your story straight.

I won't repeat what I wrote above. If you can't figure it out then a claim is unlikely to go well for you.

On getting the price down, don't make any assumptions. List as garaged, driveway and street, list with and without security, list with higher and lower mileages, try TPO, TPF&T and even FC. Some thing that you might reasonably expect to raise the price actually lower it.

There's no magic formula that works for everyone, you'll have to do the clicking yourself.

No, the only risk is if somebody pinches it and then crashes into something expensive or someone that ends up a quadraspaz. At which point the insurer has to pick up the bill, can apply for an Article 75, leave the MIB to pick up the damages and they'll then come after you for every penny you have by way of recovery of their loss.

I find the reverse to be true. Listing more miles brings it down. Both for car and bike.

Seems that the more miles you do the better they rate you as a rider/driver.
