Hi people

My bike cut out as I was riding so had to call the RAC out to recover me. Long story short he said he was 99% sure it was the regulator/rectifier. Have changed that but like the plum that I am changed it with the keys in and the ignition on! Before I did that the lights on the dials came on I seem to remember. After that and after I changed the regulator it was dead as a do do. Could it be because I had the ignition on when changed? And do you think it could of done more damage? Maybe shorted it? I have a new battery coming in the morning.
Any help/replies would be greatly appreciated! HELP! Smile

It could be that the regulator fried the battery,so you won't get any joy until you try it with a new battery in. That's what happened to me, and my battery was only about a month old. I charged the fried one for 2 days on an optimiser but it was totally shot

It would be worth checking the fuses.

Baffler 186 spot on my. My grandfather said exactly the same but I wasn't so sure. Got new battery today. Put it on her and she's raring to go again. First time start up. Def fried the battery. Can't wait for the morning! Lol.

Before you go riding check eh charging

over 12.5 v at idle
13 to 15 with 5k revs on

less than 13 revving no charge
over 15 revving over charging

either will give problems

Yes deffo do this anyway (and fuses like others have said), it may have been a different issue that cooked your Reg/REC, the breakdown of which subsequently toasted your battery. Also check all your bulbs (especially number plate light) as they may have been blown as well.
