Hey all, I am Michael, new to BCF
This morning on my ride home from a tour of London with some friends from around the country I hit a minicab driver doing a U-turn.
I am on a YBR 125 and just come off a round about, less than 2 miles from my house. Out of nowhere I see indicator lights and a car dart in to the road, in the split second I assume he is pulling away from the curb and veer round to the right to avoid hitting him, he didn't go straight, he carried on going round for a full U-turn, meeting me in the middle of the road.

I hope this mock up of the incident will give a better idea of what happened

Bike damage: Bent forks, Bent gear pedal, broken front mudguard, bent brake lever (so minor bits)
I myself am feeling ok, muscles all over my body are not feeling great, head was starting to feel dizzy, went to the hospital for a check over and they agreed it seems to just be muscles (Neck, Back, wrists, shoulder)
Other than things like calling the police to get a crime number, go to the hospital for a check up and to call my insurance tomorrow morning, what can you good people at BCF recommend I now do ?
Thank you
Michael Ajoodan, currently working at J&S Ilford .... (( today is however my very last day ))

1. Get a call in to your insurance company. Tell them what happened, you slowed down to pass a vehicle stopped in the cycle lane on the left but as you got a few yards away he pulled out and indicated at the same time making a u-turn and you had no-where to go but try to ride around him and hope he saw you at the last moment.
If you have any witnesses all the better but your photos make a pretty good case for non-fault.
2. Report it to the cops. Take your photos and walk into the local nick to make a RTC report. This morning would be a good time since it'll be quiet. Because you have been injured, this is a requirement by law 'as soon as practicably possible'. You should have called the cops from the scene really so they could have nicked the blind fucker right there. If you have a witness and those photos they'll still nick him.
3. Use this photo in your claim form. Your sketch is good but it makes it look like there are 2 lanes. The attached photo will show that he was stopped in a cycle lane. Don't use phrases like 'out of nowhere' - you saw him stopped there, you slowed down a bit to pass and he made his maneuver with no warning and indicated at the same time as pulling out is what I imagine happened. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

Don't say I thought he was going to do x so I did x. Keep it to a statement of fact, he pulled out, you tried to avoid him.
Police won't do anything unless they have witnesses. Hopefully the driver will admit liability, I'm still going through a claim from April when a van did a u-turn on me.
Also agree with not going with whoever your insurance company refers your case to. They're the ones willing to pay the biggest referral fee, not necessarily who's best.
Finally take your time with your injuries. I didn't break anything, thought I was just bruised and would be OK. Fast forward and I'm in daily pain, struggling to do everyday tasks, and will probably have to leave my job. So don't rush into accepting any offers.

Uh... only if a driver fails to stop, or doesn't give name, address (self and/or owner) or details of insurance (if asked) at the scene.

If details were exchanged and nobody influential got potatoed, I'll go out on a limb and say that Dibble won't be remotely interested.
I do hope you got details of those witnesses. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Those photos should make it pretty much open-and-shut for the insurance.
Glad you're basically OK.
That Paint diagram is FAR too good to be allowed on here. Try again, using a blindfold and crayons. ____________________ Honda Varadero 125cc => Suzuki Bandit 650 33bhp => 77bhp =>

Very similar to the first time I surfed over a bonnet; except that U-turner was coming out from behind a bus at a bus stop.
You see this guy emerging onto the road from your left, naturally you turn right to avoid, but they just keep on coming until you hit. Guy who says you could have avoided by veering left obviously has never been in this situation.
Nowadays, when I see someone pulling out from a parked position onto the road into my path unannounced, I hit the horn long and hard. But if they do it when you're almost on top of them, it's too late, very little you can do to avoid an off. ____________________ Bikes: S1000R, SH350; Exes: Vity 125, PS125, YBR125, ER6f, VFR800, Brutale 920, CB600F, SH300x4

I had a near miss when a car parked up on the right, pulled across 3 lanes to go up a side road. I saw the car indicating, being in lane 1 (with a bus lane to my left, clear lane to my right) thought I was ok, that he was pulling out into the lane closest to him.
Queue heavy braking, a long blast on the horn, and a scared passenger in the car as I just about avoided him Moral of the story, don't assume you know what a cars gonna do, chances are it'll be the stupidest thing possible ____________________ Yamaha MT-03 '08 (crashed)
