So im new to biking, before i did my CBT 2 months ago, i knew very little about them. The vast amount of makes/models of bike just confuses me and then they all seem to have nicknames which doesn't make this any easier.
Which brings me to my questions... Im already considering what bike i want for when ive either passed my A2 (Currently 23) or when ive got a big boy license (over a year away)
I figured if i explained what i wanted from a bike and you kind lot could post any recomendations
- 7 mile commute each way, being using daily and all year round.
- top speed doesnt really bother me as long as it can do over 80-90mph id be happy.
- low down and mid range power - smoother/easier overtakes and more fun for town driving. 0-60 coming in around 5-7 seconds would be ample.
- lightweight.
- retain some decent mpg.
- A more sporty orientated look but im open to anything
- Budget is going to be as cheap as possible but looking at around £1 - 1.5k. Could stretch to more if needs be.
Does such a bike exist or am i dreaming?? And can i find a bike that fits all of the above that can be ridden on an A2 license?
If so, then there isnt much point me waiting until im 24 to do DAS, i may aswell crack on with my A2!
Cheers all

Hi Stobo
This has been asked a few times before, the thread below has a discussion about options for A2 bikes
https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=280107
I think the pick of the new bikes is the Kawasaki Ninja 300 but depends on your budget.
Ideally if you could find a larger bike that can be restricted down below 47bhp within the rules to allow you to ride it on A2 licence then when you reach 24 , not that long to wait, then re-take the test again on full power bike to get the full A licence and de-restrict yours to full power. Need to check the specs carefully re power and weight to see if this is possible. ____________________ CG125 then 13yr gap.. |

Thank you for the link Muldoon! I thought i had read every A2 related thread possible but obviously missed that one.
Yeah the license laws did boggle my brain but think ive got the jist of them now.
My thinking is if i can find a bike that can do what i want it to now on a A2 license then i can get the tests out of the way now (until i probably want a bigger bike in a few years)

Any mid weight 500 should be able to do all those things.
Honda CBR500 maybe? |
Cheers will look at those. Forgot to mention my budget which is probably going to be around the £1000-1500 mark but will be able to stretch to more if needs be. |

Uh... budget?
Rider size?
Do you want a native A2 bike, or one that can be restricted (or "restricted") down for A2 but then "derestricted" for your A tests?
Assuming "some", "typical" and "suitable for A2 and later A" then... SV650S.
There are loads around at all budgets, and quite a few with fairing lowers which transform the look of the bike.
You can get one now, brand new but pre-registered, from a dealer for £4K. Not a typo, links.
Used ones must necessarily be cheaper than that, although their owners might be butthurt to hear it if they bought it for more. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Old Thread Alert!
