Thought #1: Absolutely ridiculous. They were awesome bikes in their day, and definitely deserve their place in motorcycling history, but that's daft. They're still only a production motorcycle at the end of the day. Bored rich folks eh?
Thought #2: Meh, why not buy both and use just one of them. Then unused ones will be even rarer, and the price will soar accordingly ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Its automotive art collecting, nothing to do with bikes as they will probably never be ridden. The price looks steep, however given that an unmade bed with Tracy Emin's crusty-gusseted smalls strewn about sold for £2,200,000 recently I am not surprised.... ____________________ Now - Speed Triple, old ratty GS550, GSXR750M

In Practical Sportsbikes this month, an alleged ex-Rainey YZR500 for £99k. Damn, now I have a dilemma! Which should I have for my private collection? ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

I love seeing pristine RG500s, they are my favourite bike, but in the same breath it is criminal seeing them not being used. As for the price, well, as much as roadworthy ones are crazy prices these are just insane.
I had one and it was epic. I will have another one day as I miss it so bad even though it was many years ago since I last owned one.
Would be awesome to see some rich bloke buy them, recommission them and give them a damn good thrashing ____________________ Yamaha TZR250 - love the smell of TTS!!!!

@ m3-paul: "RG500G 1986, superb condition. Recently restored. 570cc kit. Nikon pipes. Dream Machine paint job. Lots of new o.e. parts."
Paint looks like an original colour scheme. Yours for a mere £10,495. Ahem.

And Stan actually says that although the RG400 is not as tunable and can't be taken out to as much cc's as the 500, he says that fitting a 470cc BB conversion with some light tuning and set up work, makes them quite a bit faster than the std 95bhp RG500.
RG400's seem to be cheaper and would be the way to go for an RG that you just want to use on the road and enjoy. In much the same way as a Z650 is cheaper, more available and better handling than a Z1/Z900, so it makes in many ways for a better bike to ride and enjoy.
p.s The quicker than a std V-max bit doesn't worry me one little bit either, as I've been reading up on them a bit lately and how easy it is to find another 25-30bhp, or with a 1300cc conversion 165bhp at the back wheel!
If I win big on a lotto scratch card, I'd be driving a V-max engine down to PDQ straightaway! |
