Thanks all.

Yeah MC that's exactly what I did last night, read all the horror stories of easy ways to fail and how bad it is. I rode the whole test certain every little thing I did was wrong but it turned out fine.

I think my training school were superb. They were in their own words nit picking to hell every tiny fault constantly on each lesson (obviously some encouragement too). Seemed to work though as examiner said it was a good ride and no faults.

I was worried about MOD 1 too but training school had me pretty much certain I could pass it within 1 hour.

Looking back I just wish I had enjoyed it a bit more. Even if I had lots of faults I wouldn't really care as long as it's a pass.

Still thinking about what bike I want, thinking of a GSXR 600. I know many think it's a silly choice for first bike but I aint getting any younger and not sure how much longer my old aching bones would manage it.

I have heard the CBR's are lovely bikes. In fact I am quite keen on most bikes I have seen.

I have had my heart set on a Gixxer though since getting involved with the whole biking thing.

My Mrs said (always sodding right) if you don't get the bike you have always wanted you will be really happy just by having the bigger bike initially but after a couple of months you will regret being on a second choice.

Hope that makes sense and doesn't sound like I'm criticising CBR's or any other bike.

The price you can find older SRADs for it's not to bad of a choice for a first bike as it's cheap (ish) enough to not break your heart if you drop it.

Congrats! Recently passed mine too so know the feeling. Also just finished the hunt for my first 'big' bike! Decided on the CBR600F, but I completely understand your point about getting the bike you've always wanted. I've done the same thing that your wife described many times with cars and it tends to work out more expensive in the long run!

Safe riding Thumbs Up

Pattjakk - That's what I'm sacred of (wasting money). Just wanna make sure that after all the excitement, expenditure and hassle of getting full licence that I get my "dream" bike to finally celebrate on. Hope you're enjoying yours so far?

Wednesday Biker - I'm a bit of a late starter too but I'm sure it will be worth it now. I'm not too sure which I found hardest really. I did build MOD 1 up to be far more than it was. Although lucky enough not to get any minors on either. Although I was actually quite sure I had failed my MOD 2 at first.

I don't actually pick mine up until next Thursday - can't wait!

Nobody enjoys wasting money - I part exchanged 2 cars in the space of 4 months last year which was a killer. The only thing I would recommend to consider is that you may well end up dropping or coming off your first bike. That may hurt more (emotionally) if you are on your 'dream bike' than if you'd bought an alternative to gain some experience on.

Ultimately though, I feel that choosing a bike is relatively personal. Everyone can recommend different bikes to you but only you know what will really put a big grin on your face. Go with your heart IMO! Wink

I have thought long and hard about alternatives mate but always come back to getting what I really want first time to enjoy.

Dropping it is probable and no doubt will hurt a bit but riding around on a second choice bike would hurt too so I will risk it.

Ask me a couple of months after getting it and I may well be singing a different tune. Although since doing my taining a naked seems a bit tempting too.

OK now I'm sounding like a lass talking about shoes. Embarassed

GSXR engine, upright seating position, nehked so it won't cost billions if/when you drop it.

Probably a stupid question, but why do sport bike derived nakeds always weigh so much? And why are the engines always deretuned?

Not sure why they weigh so much but I think they retune them for better grunt further down the rev range as they tend to be used/meant more for commuting and town riding as opposed to a sports which is revvy towards the top

Get the bike you really want.
seriously, why get anything else?

Imagine getting on your dream bike for the first time... the grin on your face would be ridiculous lol.

I am riding a CBR 125, and i passed my MOD 1 yesterday.
my dream bike is a CBR600
I have the CBR as my desktop on this PC, i stare at it constantly... dreaming of the day i have one.
It may take years (hopefully NOT!)... but I WILL have one, i wont be happy till i have Smile

Its that thought thats kept me going through the lessons and kept me saving money Smile
