How would you do?
No revision or Googling answers Very Happy

Roadcraft Quiz - click here.

FWIW I got a disappointing 50%. Due in part to schoolboy error of not reading the question / answers properly.

Apology if site/quiz is old story/news.

I got 23, but having done my IAM green badge in the last 12 months and read Roadcraft cover to cover, I'd say some of those questions were pretty badly worded!

The ones you get asked after your advanced test are asked in much plainer English!

58%, road nerds sure do love their trams.

It's a memory exercise; many of the questions have several right answers, but only one of them is Holy Writ.

Your Rating: 18 of 26 (69%)

You answered 26 (100%) and skipped 0 (00%)
Of the questions you answered, you got 69% right.

Surprised by some of the correct answers... they seem to contradict themselves.

Example =

20) Safe driving depends on forming an accurate picture of the situation. Which one of the following mental activities does Roadcraft list as important?
Your Answer: Maintaining a high level of concentration to keep alert.
The correct answer was: Decision making comparing the current situation with previous experiences.

22) Roadcraft tells us that in high speed driving a driver may fail to perceive information accurately. Which one of the following is a common error of perception?
Your Answer: Habit and expectancy.
You Were Correct!

Basically it says habit and expectancy are bad. Then in a previous question it says that it is important to use previous experience.

I'd have thought previous experience would result in habit, expectancy and complacency.
I know when I was training there was (and in recurrent training, still is) a massive emphasis on preventing complacency by not having expectations based on previous experience.

The questions are poorly worded, with some having multiple "correct" answers but they only want the answer that appears in their book - so if you have never read their book, or like me, haven't read it in years, you're going to struggle.

Edit: Bollocks, would have got 17, but I didn't notice the "pm" and "am" transposed in the answer - I knew it was 11.30pm to 7am.

5) It is an offence to sound the horn in a built-up area except when another vehicle poses a danger between:
Your Answer: 11.30 am and 7.00 pm.
The correct answer was: 11.30 pm and 7.00 am.

This RoSPA quiz is hardly selling the dream of Roadcraft (or RoSPA) then IMHO. Unless you're good at exams/quizzes and have just read the books (Highway Code & Roadcraft) and/or have a good memory.

Well done! You know your stuff.

Quote:
16) Which one of the following could produce a micro climate?
Your Answer: Hill tops.
The correct answer was: Bridge surfaces in winter.

17) Suppose that you are driving/riding your vehicle round a circular track at gradually increasing speed. Eventually you slide off the track. This is because:
Your Answer: There is insufficient friction between tyres and track acting along the track.
The correct answer was: There is insufficient friction acting on the tyres towards the centre of the curve

Do I still need to read the book???

I agree. This quiz could quite easily put most people off.
As I said in my earlier post, the questions i got asked at the end of my IAM test, although based on roadcraft, were worded much better and spoken by a human!

Well I got 14, but I'd say the correct answers to some of the 'Roadsafe Says' questions are debatable.

Eg.
15) Roadcraft says that for a vehicle without active safety features, when a skid develops the driver's/rider's first action should be to:

Your Answer: Recognise the type of skid.
The correct answer was: Remove the cause.

Right, so I run into oil, what then? Whip out a bucket of detergent and a mop and frantically mop away at the road surface? Rolling Eyes

Pretty much. I fail to see how these two answers are wrong:

2) The Highway Code gives places where you must not overtake. Which one of the following is given?
Your Answer: When you are approaching the brow of a hill.
The correct answer was: If you would have to enter an area designed to divide traffic if it is surrounded by a solid white line.

3) Which one of the following statements is given in The Highway Code?
Your Answer: You should not park in the area covered by the zig-zag lines at a crossing.
The correct answer was: You must not stop or park on a road marked with double white lines except to pick up or set down passengers.

This one baffled me, not sure what the difference is ...

22) Roadcraft tells us that in high speed driving a driver may fail to perceive information accurately. Which one of the following is a common error of perception?
Your Answer: Your level of experience.
The correct answer was: Habit and expectancy.

24) Roadcraft tells us that overtaking is hazardous for which one of the following reasons?
Your Answer: You can never be completely sure it is safe.
The correct answer was: You put your vehicle in the path of any oncoming vehicle. (Ummm .. so what about motorways ? )

65% Not bad considering I've not read the highway code for years and have never read the Roadcraft although I think I have a copy somewhere.

Thumbs Up
