Don't be a twat, it's not a petrol station it is a supermarket, walking around with a lid on in unnecessary and intimidating.

You were hardly harassed out, the bloke seemed to be decent and was informing you of a fair store procedure. They don't need a big sign because the majority of people are socially accomplished enough to know it isn't really on

If you don't like the place and their policies don't spend your money there.

I fail to see how this is unreasonable?

If a thief goes on spree with a helmet covering their the face it is vastly going to reduce the chances of them being caught so like the majority of shops/stores around the UK it's in their policy to ask customers to remove them.

Not such a big deal and from your description of the events the security guard didn't harrass you at all, was simply doing his job and its not his responsibility to cater for your political debates.

I've stopped off in Toolstation before to get some bolts and not removed my lid.
Off bike, walk in, write out code, give to man at desk, pay, leave with bolts. No one cared.

Then again if they'd asked it wouldn't have bothered me either.

OP is a penis.

The guy spoke to you in a reasonable manner, do you expect some £12 an hour security guard to have the influence to change Tesco policy, why would he want the hassle.

People like you annoy me so much, such a busybody

OP is correct that they do put the signs in less obvious visible places. Plus also the reason given, customer identification, doesn't hold up to scrutiny.

Still worth removing if full face. For the comfort factor if nothing else. Local Tesco express when paying for fuel got away with flip-front still on (flipped up) as took a diversion down the aisles for a sandwich.

I have often wondered the consequences of wearing a shemagh and asking if there's anywhere where you could put a bag (as once I believe Toys R Us wouldn't let you around the store with your own bags). Probably too much hassle for me though, nowadays people sense of humour security is weird.

They do't need a sign because it is a waste of perfectly good ink.

Why do they need a sign, why do they need people to remove their helmet, for what purpose?

It's a polite way of saying most people would feel nervous of someone wearing a crash helmet inside. Petrol stations yes, blokes walked in off his bike to pay for fuel and leave understandable, supermarket, people assume you are there to rob the place.

OP would you keep your lid of if you were walking into a post office to pick up something or going into a Jewellers?

Social etiquette, its the same reason I wouldn't wear a ski mask inside.

but it's not for that reason, if it was then security would give that valid reason but it's some bullshit about security which matters not, either way

Look, this comes up time and time again. You were not harassed, nor were you discriminated against, at least not on any protected characteristic. Their gaff, their rules. No chests were bumped, right?

Just make your future decisions accordingly, the world will keep turning either way.

What is the reason people wear ski masks/crash helmets when they rob things...

I can't see the problem here, seems like a fair policy to me.

If people really want to obscure their face so as to not be recognised why not invest in a burka or niqab they are readily available and socially acceptable (I think...to me anyway) You don't have to be religious to wear one, not everyone that gives presents at Christmas are Christians.

Maybe harassed was the wrong word to use.

As for the question of other establishments such as bank, post office, jewellers, yes I would remove as I would expect to have to interact with people, but using selfserve, that was not my intention.

From replies (some of which I find amusing, some jumped up tossers), I assume that general opinion is that I am being a bit of a cock about it, although their argument stating customer identification still does not show consistency.

Maybe just over sensitive about some rent a guard giving me a lecture, when they happily break the licensing laws in the name of profit.

Still no harm done, no kittens gassed or puppies drowned.

Aldi from now on it is then

I regularly pop into Sainsburys with my helmet on, to pick up some things for dinner on my way home from work.

It's a flip-up though.
