I never got anything from the police, but then it turned out they had sent it to the wrong address When I called them they said as none of the witnesses had responded, they weren't taking any further action anyway. ____________________ Yamaha MT-03 '08 (crashed)

A year ago, I might have considered filling it in.
Now I wouldn't.
I do not trust the police further than I could throw them. Which given current crispy creme sales figures, is not very far at all. There is as much chance of them persuing you for a prosecution as there is the other party if you seem like an easier target.
All the police want to do is tick a box saying action has been taken and the outstanding report is put to bed. If it means giving you a ticket for a minor traffic law infraction, they can and will do that.
If the insurance is all caught up, I would give the police no more more information that I am required to by statute.
So that would be your name and address and to confirm the identity of the driver at the time they have requested information on.
Of course it is entirely up to you if you want to take part in their investigation. I personally would take my insurance money and leave. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Lol, I asked for a prosecution of the guy that pulled out on me & was told to drop it or they'd be prosecuting me for my small numberplate.
They also deemed it not a crime & refused to do anything when I got hit in traffic & the woman refused to stop/give details, and then got abusive towards me...despite me having a witness that stopped to check I was okay.
Fuck the plod. Utterly useless, I'd not co-operate in any way, or provide anything that might possibly make their job easier. ____________________ Please be aware that the above post may be full of complete nonsense.

With my case back in May the officer attending seemed disinterested, the focus of the force has shifted from upholding the law to cost-effectiveness and customer service.
As in my situation where despite the other driver clearly driving without due care and attention (not SMIDSY as he admitted that he did not even look right when pulling out) the officer had no intention of prosecuting on the basis that I did not have any obvious broken bones, now had I been doing 55mph through the 50 zone around Middlesbrough I could see a much different approach
So in regards to the OP I wouldn't waste my time, the police can fine you for wasting theirs wish the opposite was true. ____________________ Current: 02 FZS 1000 & 91 Royal Enfield Bullet 350 Some Bike Pics...

Next time someone gets knocked off their bike and the perpetrator gets away with it because a witness couldn't be bothered to make a statement - everyone here will be up in arms.
Likewise if someone's bike gets nicked and again a witness turns a blind eye to the crime, everyone on BCF will be ranting.
You cant have it both ways... |
They have brought it upon themselves.
The police owe me two prosecutions for stolen motorcycles (or even the names of the perpetrators, which they didn't even bother taking for one of them), a C90 rolling chassis which they had "recovered" from within 80 yards of my house, umpteen unecessary stops where they failed MY attitude test (which happens at the point they call me "Oi you!" or similar) and the revocation of an official caution for a breach of the peace they gave my Dad* because they were too scared to go and talk to the person who had just assaulted him.
That's going to take a while.
There are TWO arrows on this logo. They seem to forget that.

EDIT:
* He was dragged over a fence by the collar of his shirt in a dispute over access to a beach in Scotland (you have a legal right of access to ALL beaches in Scotland other than MOD property), spat on and called a "Fucking English bastard". He, on my and a local JPs advice, reported the incident to the police as a racially aggrivated assault.
The police came to interview him and asked him to sign a page in their notebook. He flipped back a few pages to find they were asking him to sign a pre-written statement describing him and the other guy having a fight in the middle of the road and admitting to acting in a disorderly manner. He refused to sign it. They took the hump and told him he could either accept an official caution for breach of the peace or be taken to court over it.
He later found out they hadn't even interviewed the other guy who has a history of acts of violence and has even intimidated the council planning and access officers to the point they wont enforce the legal right of access to the beach that was the subject of the original dispute.
As a result of that incident, I have exactly no time at all for the police. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

I was always led to believe that respect is earned. It is not a right, it is a privilege. It can also be revoked, it isn't a permanent entitlement.
You can show understanding, compassion, empathy, acceptance, etc. but that's not quite the same. ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...
