Fuel that is........... Just filled up the bike. It has a 25lt tank and have just put 24.65lt in at the pump meaning I had less than 350ml left in my tank.

I normally put fuel in when the light comes on or I get close to the mileage that the fuel light would com on but this time I went on to reserve and still had a good 40 miles to go. Eco driving was done to the extreme.

How low have you gone without actually running out of fuel?

Ran out to the point it was attempting to stall, shook bike side to side, slipped clutch and kept revs up, then practically rolled into the petrol station at the end of my road - luckily it's just a little / enough downhill.

Fuel gauge on the Sprint has been awful lately. I think it all needs to come apart and be sorted.

Not sure how much my bike holds in reserve but, the most I've ridden on it was 16 miles. I wouldn't like to do it again though.

I turn the tap ON, then to RES and then I find the petrol station.

I hate pushing motorcycles, especially those with low clip-on handlebars. Everytime I had to push a motorcycle, it was 30°C+ in the shade and I had my full gear on. Thumbs Down

Onto reserve "shit, should fill up"

Then I realise I forgot as she starts to splutter on my way to/from work (I always fill up after finishing my last shift so only run out on commute) but luckily I have a petrol station half way.

Had it as long as about half a litre left before. Usually fill up at around 120 miles, or before a longer jaunt if I know I'll be out for an extended period of time.

Got rather worried when I'd been on the reserve light for twenty mile plus in Anglesey recently. I'd been looking for a mile or two prior to the light too but the area around RAF Valley and the motor circuit had no fuel stations....

Hi

Once or twice I have had to lean the bike right over to get to a petrol station. But that is pretty much running out.

We did manage to get over 79 litres into an 80 litre tank on a car once.

All the best

Keith

Run it down to the last droplets, usually lasts a week commuting, a claimed 16 litre tank and the most I've got in is 15.25 litres.. Don't have a reserve either

I have an OCD issue where I can't let it go below quarter before filling back up.

Although, the pizza bikes at work I tend to have them on the flashing empty sign before I bother filling them up, probably because the store/petrol station is always within walking, and therefore bike-pushing distance.

Ran my last van out to the point I had to jump out every 1/2 mile, pop the bonnet, and prime the fuel filter to get it to start back up again. Then floor it, get as much speed up as possible before it stalls, then coast to a stop. And repeat.
Managed to coast it onto a forecourt to fill up.

Bikes. Pretty much ran all of them out. Always been with a buddy though, who has given me a peg-push / tow to a garage.

I did run my 2t pit bike out of 2 stroke oil once though. It was along the Wainscott Bypass at 2am. By myself.
Had to push it 4 miles to the petrol station where I could buy some more 2t oil.

Annoying as it had plenty of petrol in it. But nipped up on me once it ran out of oil.

Got a 9 litre tank, once squeezed 8.6 litres in. I ran out of fuel on the way home, put it on reserve, got home. Got bike out in the morning, commuted to work, filled up as I left work. Completely forgot I was on reserve.

Currently testing my bike for this.. It's supposed to have a 90 ish mile tank range, today I did a 100 mile journey - varied riding styles from hard a/b roads to some motorway cruising.. Fuel light comes on at about 50 miles travelled... And I made it all the way home.. 48 miles with the fuel light on!

Carrying a litre of fuel in a fuel cannister with me and going to run it completely dry to see just how far I can risk it.

(I have an in-line fuel filter fitted so not worried about dragging crap into the injectors from the tank)

Going by the hornet theory of 100miles I tank, I thought i had 7 left, so filled up... only got 8.37 in. So with a reserve of 3L and tank of 16L, I had a good 5L left in there. So one can only deduce that I ride like a pussy Laughing

Still haven't managed to rrun it down to reserve yet so I know exactly how much I can squeeze out of it... I must do that.

I have a petrol station at each end of my commute and get 200 miles out of a tank anyway and don't fancy having to push my bike in full commuting gear so don't tend to push my luck.

That said, I waited until the warning light came on once and comparing my receipt to tank volume still had 3litres left so it's pretty pessimistic.

I vaguely remember reading somewhere that it wasnt good for EFI bikes with fuel pumps submerged in the tank to be run on empty, so try not to drop lower than one or two bars on the fuel gauge (I think there are about 8 shown when full).

Potentially fighting a big of misinformation but meh.

It's not hard to work out your reserve range on a bike that has a reserve tap. Just fill up as soon as you hit reserve and note how much fuel goes in. Divide the miles you've done from full by the litres you put in for miles per litre. Now subtract the litres you put in from the tank's capacity less half a litre (for safety/failing to brim the tank) to get your reserve capacity and multiply that by the result from the first calculation. That's how many miles you can do on reserve.

My Bandit has a 5 litre reserve and will normally do between 50 and 60 miles on it on my commute. It'd go further if it wasn't all heavy/city traffic.

I've turned reserve on and ridden home from work before,

needle was on red when I set off, was getting closer and closer to the needle stop before I wussed out and got petrol.

Run my current ZZR down to vapours a few times had to push it the last 20 meters to a petrol station once. It's a 400k (same as 600d) so no fuel gauge or reserve and the warning light comes on at just past half a tank so is pointless.

My scooter takes 9.05 litres, and I regularly fill up with 8.6, 8.7 litres. You can tell when it's really low because it bogs down on acceleration - what's left of the fuel sloshes to the rear of the tank, away from the pump.

I've run out exactly once, when I got trapped in traffic in Westminster earlier this year. (If you follow RoyalJordanian on YT, it was the same day that he gave up and headed back home.) Not many petrol stations in Westminster, and I had a 7 minute push to a station when I ran short.

My VFR allegedly has a 22 litre tank, but when the last unit on the fuel gauge first starts flashing, it can only take about 16 litres. Either the gauge is lying to me, or the tank is smaller than advertised, or the tank needs very specific conditions for refilling, like being on the centrestand. I haven't tested it significantly.

Never try that on my Bimota unless you like walking Laughing . The claimed tank size is rather on the optimistic side.

All the best

Started coughing 50 yards from the entrance to the service station, on reserve.

Clutch in, kill switch, rolled up to the pump.
