Those tyres are getting low. The legal limit is 1mm deep on the tread. Those look about 2-3 mm. If you buy new tyres you'll notice increased grip in wet because the tread pushes the water out of the way. On a low tread tyre you get something called auqaplaning where the tyre skims across the top of the water instead of going through it which results in a severe loss of grip because you're essentially driving on water E.G a grip less surface. Anyways that's what I think. I only worked 12 weeks in a car/bike garage so I'm no expert. |

Tyre looks done. Its squared off and low on tread. Pirelli's seem to start 'shredding' on the edges of the tread when they are worn.
Buy a new one.
Pirelli Rosso's are good in all conditions. But there are better for wet weather. ____________________ Suzuki GT250 x7------- Fazer 600------CB250RS------Aprilia Rally 70----- Bandit 600

Also, slicks are good in the dry, but no use at all in the wet. The tread is there to allow water to disperse, which they're obviously not doing. |
All very interesting, but I can't see a picture of a slick?
In any case, that tyre still has life in it, but it is pretty squared off, and probably makes your bike handle like a sloppy pair of tits. |
I was more referring to the OP's comment about them being good in the dry - well a slick is also good in the dry (provided it's warm enough), but the tread (or lack of!) is what matters for wet conditions A completely shagged type with 0.1mm of tread will (probably) seem good in the dry, but it's still shagged and needs replacing
OP, I'd say if you're losing grip in the wet, with the colder and wetter weather coming I'd replace it - last thing you want is to be laying in the road in huge pain thinking "I wish I'd got a new rear tyre... " ____________________ 00 Honda VFR800 | 09 Aprilia Tuono Factory

It's not crazily squared off and is a Diablo Rosso. First time it has lost traction, it was a race scrub a put on a couple of years ago. There was no standing water and nothing on the road - I think Sam's right in that it's just poor in the wet.
That's the size Bobbeh, perfect if I could have it
I'll post a pic of my SM tyres... now they're squared off |
