I've had my YBR for 2 1/2 years since doing my CBT and passed my full test in January. I broke my leg the following week so never got around to looking for a big bike.

After finishing work early this week I went to a bike shop for a bit of window shopping - and ended up buying a ER6F. 2 years old and 8k on the clock. It's immaculate and I am chuffed to bits. Now I have to wait until next Saturday to pick it up, it's going to be a long week...

Congrats mate! I think after... oh about five minutes on a big bike, you won't miss your YBR as much as you might think. They're good little bikes but your Kwak will undoubtedly be more fun. Ride safe.

I missed my 125. It fitted in the front room so much easier.

I know the ER-5 and ER-6 are different bikes but if the latter is anything like the former then I think you'd have a pretty fun and fairly forgiving big bike to practice your handling with. There are good reasons why DAS training schools use one or both. Although I take it the reliability is a problem due to build quality issues (the ER-5 I rode lost it's gear change lever about ten miles down the road for example).

Having gone from a ybr to an er6 (which I still have) I am sure you will love it. Very comfortable and can certainly pull when needed

in fact I have just chopped in my girlfriends newer sv650s and kept the er6 as a winter hack than lose it completely.

Fair point, single disc front brake on a bike that heavy, bit of an oversight. Quite fond of the little things though, can't say I'd own one but I was surprised how well they pull, and the weight felt manageable to me even as a new rider, seemed to want you to lean in more which I enjoyed even on slow twisties.

If it was a complete dog I very much doubt MCN would rate it so highly - they loved the 2005-2008 version as a fun all-rounder, rating it higher than a slew of other bikes including my XJ-6. If it's half as much fun as my Divvy you are gonna love it. Just be gentle with the throttle for the first week or so, you can crank a throttle fully open on a 125 in any gear and have no problem, do the same on a bigger bike in the first two gears and it's likely to buck you off, respect the power and all that. Lot more clutch work... but hey, you passed your tests, you know all this right?

My GF's ER6 reminds me a lot of our old YBR; narrow, light, flickable, budget. In some ways I actually prefer it to my VFR.

The YBR would struggle to do 45 up an incline, though. The ER6 is far more capable.

OP, I think you're doing things the right way. Take it in phases, appreciate each bike as an improvement on the last.

Only thing I miss about the YBR is a cheeky giggle to myself every time I shoved a tenners worth of petrol to get me another couple of hundred miles.
