This!
I just sold an exhaust for $400 delivered, and 381 appeared in my paypal account... fair enough, it was a free listing and must have been the final value fee.
Oh no... I'm still going to be invoiced ANOTHER $20.41 by ebay for this transaction...
Surely that's not right, right?
They also now charge a final value fee on postage, which in my case was 10%. ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. Paypal fees are 2.4% + $0.30 which would come to $9.9
If you go to Paypal and have a look at the transaction it shows you the amount received and the fee deducted from that.
They do indeed charge final value fees on postage as well so all in that'll be $40. |

Well, they don't deserve $40 for such little input. I guess I'll be cancelling the transaction after I've sent the item and got the money in my account.
Fuck you ebay. $20 would have been enough, but fuck you for being greedy. ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. Somebody who isn't me knows that if it's a cash on collection auction then when they come to collect the item, you can offer them a discount if they'll agree to cancel the auction.
From not paying 10% to eBay, someone who isn't me has moar monies even after giving the buyer a discount.
Everyone wins. Apart from eBay. |

What you pay for when selling on eBay is not so much anything they do, (which, let's face it, is very little), but the fact that you can reach a lot more potential buyers than anywhere else. This is more beneficial for some items than others. Before internet auctions existed, if you tried to sell something in a newspaper, usually, the bigger the distribution, the more expensive the ad.
Buyers prefer using paypal as it gives them a lot more protection - which is abused by some.
If you find the fees excessive, 'best thing to do is calculate them beforehand, and add this to your initial selling price.
If you need to communicate with a buyer without ebay sticking their nose in, use the Paypal payment email and not eBay messages. If you need to get your email address to a potential buyer without ebay censoring your message, write it on a piece of paper and take a photo of it then send that.
And yes, they ARE greedy bastards

£40 max? That must have been a long time ago!
For the last couple of years the maximum was £75, since the 2nd of September it's gone up to £250.
That doesn't apply to eBay motors listings, properties or classifieds. |

I've had them cancel a couple of bike sale auctions, [after the auction has ended and I've been in touch with the buyers, who have continued with the purchase] for stupid things like keyword spamming so saved me a good few quid ____________________ Some people feel the rain, others just get wet. |
