 |
|
Hi all,
When riding, I put my ipod in a tank bag with a clear lid however changing volume, with gloves on, through the see-through lid, is impossible. Changing songs is just about possible, but only if I'm willing to look down for a few seconds to find the button, then have a few goes at pressing it.
The answer to my problem, would surely be some form of in-line remote, with chunky buttons, and an aux port going in, and out. I could cable tie it to the handlebars, and hey presto, a decent ipod controller.
Does such a thing or similar exist though?
(I want to steer clear of a wireless remote like bluetooth, because I have an ipod classic without bluetooth) |

You can use wired or radio-frequency remote. Wireless and bluetooth is not the same. Bluetoooth enabled devices like 2nd gen ipod just have intergrated bluetooth.
RF ones have 2 parts one you attach to your ipod (the receiver) the other is the remote and you can put safely your ipod in your jacket pocket or in the top box RF has 50 meters range:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-iPod-SportCommand-RF-Remote/dp/B000NDGO86/ref=pd_cp_ce_0
There are many RF remotes manufacturers just search for "rf remote control for ipod classic uk"
You can strap it to the handlebars not your arm obviously

Here is the wired remote control you can use too

That isn't a reason not to use bluetooth. Get a bluetooth adapter dongle and a bluetooth headset. Headset can then pause, skip, adjust volume, etc. ____________________ Bikes: S1000R, SH350; Exes: Vity 125, PS125, YBR125, ER6f, VFR800, Brutale 920, CB600F, SH300x4

See this is why having a smart phone is useful, bin your iPod and all the complicated solutions that go with it.
You can get a SoundCoud app and "like" all of your favourite tunes into one playlist (has a shuffle feature) or make a YouTube playlist and have it play songs from there. No need to change volume or anything on the go, all automated once you press play on the first song and jump on the bike. And if you need to skip songs/music, don't put them in the bloody playlist fixed.
That way you get something playing in your headphones without having to put yourself and others in danger by breaking your concentration while you're fiddling about with something.
Imo fiddling with an iPod on a bike is probably worse than texting in a car.
And tbh most phones can also double up as a sat-nav too with some kind of app so it'll tell you where to go. I have two free satnav softwares on my phone for that purpose and they work great, no need to dish out £300 on a sat nav or even pay £10 for an A-z.
I still haven't slept yet so forgive me if I'm coming across strange in any way. |

Buy an two stroke Jawa with semi-auto gearbox. When you step on the gear shifter, it disengages the clutch. You can even take off one handed. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

I have my S3 in a handlebar mounted case for satnav, music etc. Having tried conductive gloves etc., I now use a mobile phone stylus cable tied to the bars next to the phone. I don't use it whilst moving, but it means I can easily fiddle at the side of the road without taking my gloves off.
Not sure if it'll work for the iPod classic, but cheap enough to try. |

Interesting question and answers/solutions, especially the in line-wired device.
I have a lot of random stuff on my Ipod, but I just make a playlist of a genre I want to listen to when out on the bike, and play that, or just put my fave songs from a band on, and then same again with the next band, so I'm happy listening too all the tracks.
Otherwise get a 2stroke, and you won't want to listen to music with the ring ding racket going on underneath you! |

I'm sure the original earphones you get with the ipod means you can double click to skip to the next song plus the volume adjuster is on there too!
Don't tell me you can't use it with bike gloves on, you're just being a potato ____________________ Malaguti F12 Phantom-Dead, Suzuki AY50- Dead, NRG power DD LQ, CBR125.
