Is that a 1998 steel frame or a 1998 ally frame CBR?
1998 *should* be a steely, but I've seen some FXs advertised as 1998 on a 'T' plate so you never know.

If it's the ally one, the seat lock is just above the numberplate.

If it's the steel one I have no idea. Smile

If you have a aluminium frame FX the key hole can be seen here;

just insert the key turn to right and wiggle the seat whilst pulling it will come up,(can be a bit tricky sometimes)

If it is a FW (steel frame)
you can see the key ghole here near the indicator;

I'm guessing the process is the same.

by the way I've got a spare seat for that bike if you want one. £20.
keep meaning to whack it on ebay.

Hi

Not sure, but on the older model isn't that lock for the helmet lock?

I know that on the older CBR600s I have fiddled with the seat is bolted down. You use something like a key to take off each side panel (small fastener at the bottom), revealing the bolts towards the back holding the seat in place.

All the best

Keith

hi, i have a cbr 600 1998 fw,

you cannot lift the seat on this model

there is very little storage on the bike, and you access this by removing the under seat side fairing on the left side of the bike.

under this panel there is 2 little cubbys, one near the fuel tap and one right at the back under where the pass seat is, but like i said the seat does not flip up.

the only reason to remove a seat on a 1998 cbr 600 is to get to the battery, or to take the tank off to change the air filter ect, and the seat is held on by a couple of 10mm bolts, one on each side, then you gently lift the seat from the rear and pull it of towards the rear of the bike

to remove the under seat fairing start on the left, look just above the left foot peg and you will see a plastic screw with a a flat head drive, ( same on the right) undo this and then you can carefully pull the fairing from the bike which after undoing this plastic screw, is only help on by pull in and out fixings, but be carefull as by the grab rail, the fairing can be tricky and there is a couple of fragile fixings

if you need to know any more bout the 98 600 fw, drop me a line.

hope this helps

I got a 99 CBR600F.

To release seat, insert key in the lock at back and turn (clockwise i believe).

While its turned put two fingers on the very front of the seat and push it towards the back of the bike.

Slides right off.
