Hey all,
after a bit of advice.
My oven has been acting up lately. I've got a conventional electric oven, with top and bottom heating elements. Just recently it's been getting very hot. Dial on the front set to 175c, but the oven thermometer I bought showing 210c!
I've been hunting around online and most opinions suggest that the thermostat is bust, but on further testing I'm not so sure. I tested just using the bottom element, set to 250c and it was still cold to touch after 10 minutes. Switching to both elements and it started to heat.
The thermostat sensor sits in the oven in a vertical position, so I'm now beginning to think that it's due to the faulty element. I dug out my multi-meter and checked all the switches and connections, 240v everywhere (where it should be!). I didn't get a chance to check the bottom elements as it's only accessible from the underneath and this was 11pm!
So, I guess, what I'm asking is due to heat riding etc, and the oven not being fan assisted. Would you expect the thermostat to register incorrectly resulting in the upper half of the oven getting too hot and the bottom staying too cold?
I'm a bit annoyed as if this happened a few months later I'd be able to buy a decent fan assisted oven. This B&Q POS is crap!
Thanks! ____________________ Like a Yorkie - I'm not for the girls |

I don't. It was replaced just before I moved in about 18 months ago. The handbook says 2 year, but proof of purchase required. Might just bite the bullet and replace. ____________________ Like a Yorkie - I'm not for the girls |

240v getting right to the element.
New one on order. Will test fo continuity when I get a chance to cut power and remove the oven properly... ____________________ Like a Yorkie - I'm not for the girls |
