Hi all

I have an FZ750 which has what I would call pearlescent white paint on the tank and fairing. My usual paint guy said he can't make a touch up for the tank chips and gave me some flat off-white that I will likely use on the basis that it is probably better than leaving it out to the elements.

On the fairing tough I am looking to buy some new panels that will require paint from scratch and I'm wondering how I might get an approximate match - sounds like it might involve several stages which will be easy to mess up.

Any ideas out there ? Other than 'take it to dream machine'. the bike didn't cost much so I'm only tidying it up a bit really.

Cheers

If you aren't worried about it being original, then why not paint the tank and fairings with a simpler non-pearlescent paint? That way they'll match, probably cheaper doing both than getting fancy paint on the fairing and getting touch up paint will be easy.

Unless you are an exceptionally good painter, you probably won't get a match on that DIY.

Even for the pro's a match will be difficult as the effect is created not only in the paints used, but in the layering of them and conditions that they are done in.

Hmm, yes. I recall trying to repaint my purple fizz 30+ years ago and having similar issues. Trying to layer a clear purple over a metallic base coat. By the time you had depth of colour the metallic was obliterated. 'Might' be easier with white mind you..

shockingly I've found halfrauds a good place for white pearl match on older yams and kwaks but you do need to either be doing a stone chip touch up or a full single part respray....you do need to buy at least 1/4 litre for the sub £30 mark tho they have the paint codes and the mix ratio pretty right to be fair.....as much as i hate to admit it, so long as the guy behind the counter knows what hes doing it works well!
