Try putting some air in the tube before putting in, or just after. Before you get the levers on the tyre.
Helps get it away from your levers and the edge on the tyre.... ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

Herp de derp.
It's some type of black magic, with enough practice you'll master it. That or your failed attempts at black magic will have caused the deaths of many small fluffy kittens!
As everyone has already said, inflating the tube a bit is very important for getting the tyre on without causing a pinch puncture. Lube the tyre up with washing up liquid as this will make it easier to get onto the rim.
If all else fails, breakdown cover is very useful as if you've got a puncture they'll be happy to take you to a shop/workshop who'll be able to fix it. |

I just rang a mate of mine in Brighton, he's a self-employed mechanic. He uses BCF so I've told him to check the post...if he's free he should contact you via pm. ____________________ Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter won't mind - Dr. Seuss |

Did you partially inflate the new innertube?
A bit of pressure helps prevent pinch flats. Sometimes a little lube (which doesn't eat the rubber, of course), can help too. Tyre soap is ideal of course, when not available, I've used a bit of normal soap lathered up. Washing up liquid as Ste suggested, seems reasonable, though I've not tried it.
Also, make sure that as you're getting the final bit of tyre in, that you've got the opposite side pushed in to the dip in the rim - makes it massively harder if you don't.
Finally, make sure your tyre levers don't stick too far through.
Personally I would fix all the holes first, but yes, a slime thingy might do it. |

This is why you should never use a kitchen fork as a tyre lever ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

The old adage about not being able to make omelettes without cracking a few eggs comes to mind. Consider that patched tube a practice run, with any luck you'll do the next one without any patches. ____________________ .
