The die was cast when he opted to try and overtake the other lorry. What else is he gonna do once he's made the move? Slow down even further to pull back in behind the lorry he was trying to overtake? And causing the queue behind him to slow down even more and get more aggravated? If the other lorry isn't going to change speed, he'll just have to inch his way forward until he can pull out of the overtaking lane.
In hindsight of course it was a silly move, but who among us have never thrown sense to the wind and tried to pull a maneuvre that turned sour? The driver probably thought he could make it only to find the situation conspiring against him when he actually began to overtake.
In any case take it as yet another lesson learnt; you may have picked up some cues about lorry behaviour that can be applied in future situations ____________________ Motorsapien Art |

It is frustrating. If they are going a few mph faster then O.K but sometimes it's not even 1mph faster. I've had it when they take 10 minutes to overtake |

I got stuck behind one doing it the other day...after 5 or 6 minutes of them being side by side and at exactly the same speed, there was a massive queue forming behind.....he eventually abandonned the overtake and got behind the lorry he tried to overtake.

Used to encounter this on the M26 sometimes. Parts are pretty flat so lorry speeds can be similar, leading to long drawn out overtakes.
I usually resorted to going through the middle. ____________________ NSR125RR - ZXR750H1 - ZX9R E1 - GSF600S - GSF600SK3 - VFR400-NC30 - SV1000N - ST1100-R - CBR900RR-R - GSF1200SK5 - GSF600SK1 - VFR1200FA - GSXR1000K2 - ZZR1400 D8F

Pretty much what OGR said.
Yes, it's frustrating, but I don't let it bother me.
They probably want to have their foot flat down on the accelerator as it's more comfortable than having to put it up and go slower.

The vans at work are limited to 56 so I end up like a lorry wanker overtaking at a snails pace, usually I sit behind them and wait for a hill then drop a gear and go for it ____________________ KTM 990 SMT & Suzuki DR-Z 400 SM |

Don't forget how much tax is paid by the lorry fleets to use the road, I'm as frustrated as anyone else, chugging along while in a cage, but lorries aren't a problem when riding the bike, these guys have to make their living, and passing a slower lorry can make a hell of a difference to their travel time...
My beef with truckers is--- When they pull out to pass, and assume the right to cut into the lane your already in, without signaling before maneuvering...
THEN I think the're chunts |

You were lucky as the speed limit for duel carriage ways is 50mph.
Its all to do with who's lightest. But the law is about to change soon so lorries will be able to go a little faster.About time too.
G is absolutely right 10 minutes does make a difference. The difference between having your 45min break on time or an infringement. ____________________ 'Great Britain' Love it https://img43.imageshack.us/img43/3967/67004290.gif or Leave it |
