The condition is that you have to be on a broadband connection.

https://www.speedtest.net/result/3857807416.png

This is slow even for me. I usually get around 1MB download, but today, dial up is very nearly just as fast.

Yay for living in a new build miles from the exchange. Sad

I would check, but I've currently got a torrent coming down at 7.7MB/s. Maybe later.

:edit: yes, that's megabytes, not megabits.

My raw download speed is appalling, streaming HD videos is alright, but downloading things is just a bad experience. The mobile data on my phone is much faster! I need Virgin Media Sad

Posted it in a thread like this before but I can't find it on my imgur account.

Either way it was 0.08 mb/s yeah for reals, then I moved out of my parents and get 8mb/s, world of difference (it's the fastest I can get where I live in the country side Laughing

Can get 120meg if I wanted, used to have 100 but downgraded to 20 as it's pointless really, I can still start a download, go and get some food and it be ready when I get back to the PC anyway Thumbs Up

I thought we paid for 20 meg. Apparently not.

Not bad for Virgin Media.

In all fairness it's never usually that quick as one cunt in the house constantly uses xbox live while skyping and torrenting so we don't really get the full use of it thanks to him Evil or Very Mad Thankfully he's away this week Laughing

Not bad considering we're on Sky ADSL.

We're billed at "up to " 20Mb, which seems ok. We generally get download speeds of 2 MB/S, can stream HD movies and have some decent gaming on 2 PC's.

Can't say fairer than that, really. Thumbs Up

Hi

That is pretty awful. Ours occasionally used to get that bad on ADSL, but most of the time we got around 1mb and we were ~7km from the exchange by the route the wires took.

Home test speed we get these days:-

Work for a company where half of the business is an ISP. That wasn't a good speed!

Does anyone know at what distance you have to be from the exchange for it to start making a difference in your speeds? or is it literally meter by meter ?

i'm around 1 mile from mine which to me sounds alot, but in reality is it actually detrimental to the speed, much?

That's on a mobile dongle. The military base I currently live on has very restrictive internet, hence the dongle. I look forward to next July when I return to the Airbase I was on before. Only twice the speed, but crucially no data limits.

Depends how much copper there is. I'm about 4-5 miles I think from what I've been told by the engineers that have been round trying to make the connection work (it's unreliable to boot).

If I lived in the sticks I could accept it, but I live on the outskirts of Bedford (uses the Wilstead exchange if anyone knows it).

No point in worrying about it until BT dig everything up to put fibre in. Why they don't just lie it as standard I'll never know.

720P, that's the dream. Youtube defaults to 144p, can just about handle 360P if I'm lucky. Otherhalf has to turn WiFi off on her iPad and phone if I want to stream anything. Mobile signal is also non-existant or I'd be using a dongle.

A fellow sufferer. It's so daft how a new build can have much poor internet. At least it's cheap.

Know dem feels. Had to fight tooth and nail with BT and Open Reach to get above 1mbs. Christ what an epic struggle it was. Took best part of two years, but everyone knew fine well the line was capable of three times the speed. Nearly had to get into ombudsman territory about it all. Then one day an OR kid who'd never visited came out, did the same old same old tests and just goes oh right, yeah, it's that pole over there - pointing to one just down the road. Climbed up, swapped something out and fucking bam. 3mbs right there. Never dipped since - been like this for a good 6 months I reckon. Unbelievable that ALL the other engineers had singularly failed to trace the fault correctly. I actually think a lot of the older guys simply haven't grasped or can't grasp digital equipment. Younger lad turns up, switches the same boxes on and susses it in a trice. Wtf.

All of the guys that have been over said the speed would be crap. Sad
