First of all a quick hi to everyone on here!

I've recently purchased a Kawasaki 250R and I was wondering if anyone could tell me exactly where the battery is located. I'm hoping to put her on an Optimate but haven't got the permanent battery leads yet so will be attaching using crocodile clips for the time being.

If your Optimate came with two sets of cables then while you have the seat off and access to the battery fit the one that ends in the plug. Route the cable from that and cable tie in somewhere convenient but tucked away and pop your seat back on. If you don't have that cable you can buy them easily from places like ebay, Amazon and so on. Five minute job, tops!

Just remember to disconnect the Negative (Black) first and re-connect it last.

The frame and all other metal parts of the bike are connected to the Negative on all modern bikes and cars so if your spanner touches the frame while you're working it's no bother. If you disconnect the Positive first and touch the frame with the spanner there will be sparks as it shorts out the battery. Other bad things may happen too so don't do that.

If you raise your seat in the air it makes for easier access, although you may find it's a bit of a tight squeeze in there. Don't forget to grease up well.

Of the 9 bikes that have passed through by household in the last 10 years all of them have battery under the seat. (although the RXS you removed it from the side)

Had a genuine call from an RAC guy who couldn't find the battery on a ZZR1400 before - least you were able to find it without contacting a main dealer! Laughing

On the GS it's under the "tank", only that's not actually the tank, the tank is under the seat. But the battery isn't.

Actually last bike had it under the side cover.

I realise none of this helps the OP...


My last two bikes are the same. The battery is under the right-hand side cover. The fuel tank is under seat which helps lower the cog(when full)

GT tank under seat, battery under "tank" hmm. "battery cover"?

I've been in there to put put 5V usb connector for my tablet, god I'm turning into a right boring old cnut. Can't be all bad yesterday i managed to get a cyclist to shake his head slowly at me for filtering up the (broken white line) cycle lane. Hah I recognised him, he had no clue he knew me.

All of my bike have had the battery behind a side panel.

On the Pan i've got an accessory socket fitted - Optimate plugs into that.

So that'd be an always live then, direct to battery.
I've always been reluctant to fit one of those, wary of shorts and/or any water ingress.
