My Yamaha YBR 11 plate has a 13L tank. Just in to the red on the gauge I will fill up. I only ever seem to get 5 or 6 litres in the tank before its "full" to the brim and the hose cuts out.

I fill up on the centre stand for obvious reasons, should I shake it on the stand to "move the fuel down" or something. Can't figure out why I only get such little fuel in.

Well, it would appear that it's not totally empty when you go to refuel.

Mystery solved.

Perhaps the previous owner had heard about putting a brick in the toilet cistern to save water and thought that they could save petrol by putting a brick in the tank.

Worth a look....

...possibly.

I have yet to encounter one that's ever right.

WHAT!?! Noooo... Shifty

Probably.. Is there a reserve tap?

Fill up a 5 litre jerry can and strap to seat and ride until you run out..

Then look at how many miles you get on a full tank, which gives you an indicator. I've never trusted the fuel gauge.. But i know how many miles i can go before running out...

If you're fueling up like you would a car then that could be part of you problem.

I raise the nozzle just above the opening on the tank and slightly pull the lever to release fuel other wise the splash back will shut the pump off.

I suppose it's just a thing you'll pick up over time...

Next time it's on the red, open the tank and have a look inside, if it looks about half full then your gauge is telling porkies.

My thoughts too just be careful of the spray when you pull out.

Mine 'has' a 17 litre tank. After pushing it to the garage thanks to running out, I could only get a little over 15 into it.

I posted this in another thread just this morning but my YBR has been indicating it's empty for a good couple of weeks now and i can still hear fuel sloshing around inside the tank. Even though I’ve commuted every day on it.

I've learned to treat my fuel gauge on this thing as nothing more than a vague representation of a possibility. I use my ears and trip counter instead they're more accurate.

You should be getting a good 200+ miles from a full tank at the least.

As said before on the ybr you can consider that empty fuel gauge=half tank left. The most accurate way is to reset your tripmeter every time you refill and extrapolate your autonomy. (Should be a good 200-250 miles)

Buy a jerry can fill it with petrol strap it to the back of your bike reset your trip and ride till you run out, that will give you an idea.

I have ran out of petrol on nearly every bike I have owned.

My TDM's 20l tank took a shade over 20 from empty my Speed Four 17 litre tank took 16.89l

My YBR was never accurate. When it had half a tank it showed 3/4 full.

When it had a 1/4 of a tank it showed full.

When it was empty it showed half full.

Best plan: jiggle the bike. If it sounds echo-ey, fill it up.

YBR fuel gauge is shit, ignore it

I remember my first attempts fuelling up, couldnt work out why the pump kept stopping and I had to squeeze it super gently or repeatedly click it in

What a spacker Laughing

Someone else with a YBR posted similar issues a month or so ago.

I'd just go with them having an unreliable fuel gauge tbh.

From the 5-6 litres I get around 150 miles and thats if I cruise in 4th rather than 3rd. I tend to stay in 3rd if I know I have to slow or stop a lot.

I do raise the nozzle, I am no noob Smile just asking why I can't get more than 6 or 7 litres at most in.

Also I always reset trip meter every fill up.

Next time you are cruising in 4th, try changing up again - I think you may be surprised by the results.

I don't like sitting at 30-35 at 4000 rpm, power band on my bike is 6-8500 rpm

i had the same on mine. you have to basically rest the tip of the nozzle on her rim and watch how much is coming out ... (giggity)

Used to take me forever to fill mine up because you had to be careful not spray fuel everywhere or when the tank is so full it overflows briefly as the air is escaping.

Can help depending on the angle of the tank, etc to squeeze a bit more in by allowing out trapped air (ie, some above the bottom of the neck in the fuel filler - although the manual probably tells you not to fill above this level).

All the best
