Best thing would be a new cover.......however I fixed a much worse hole in my chinese POS 125cc crankcase using chemical metal Embarassed , this was in a secluded place thankfully (front sprocket area). It's still going strong (sold it 5 years ago and still spot it sometimes Twisted Evil ).

Wouldn't dream of doing such a bodge nowadays. If you do go down that road.. take the cover off before you do it, and be aware that if you try and sell the bike later people will ask questions.

And here I was expecting to be hung for daring to suggest such a thing. Laughing

Used it with great results after a footrest punched a hole (that you could put your finger through) in the casework when my bike was run over whilst unattended in a car park by a reversing lorry.

Chemical Metal it for now and take your time looking for a cheap replacement cover, then fit it prior to any potential buyers viewing the bike - unless the cover costs less than the chemical metal!

general consensus seems to be buy a new one. second hand ones on fleabay are £35ish, and all in usa so long delivery time. was going to part exchange bike soon as well. i'm tempted just to bodge it.

will i have to drain oil before i remove cover?

cheers.
mike.

Payback from Demeter?

If you're going to use chemical metal, you'll have to remove the cover to properly degrease it, but (as mentioned) if the bike is leaned over enough you won't have to drain the oil out.

I fixed a cracked case on my old zx6 with just 2 part epoxy, applied to the inside of a degreased case.

Made a well with blue tac and the webbing of the case, then pooled the epoxy into it. Let it dry overnight in the house.

Was on the bike for 20k miles and never leaked.
