Hi all,

My name is Mike and I'm from Wokingham near Reading.

I started riding in August after going down the Direct Access route. I passed module 1 and 2 tests first time, each with a handful of minors.

I'm currently riding around on a 2012 Yamaha XJ6N. It didn't break the bank, was reasonably cheap to insure and gets up to speed pretty quickly. I've always liked the look of the naked bikes and had read that the XJ6 was considered a good first 'big bike'. So far it hasn't disappointed.

My time on the road so far has been incident-free (thankfully) and I've had a blast, even though all of my trips have been on my own - whether a ride to nowhere in particular, a trip down to the coast or braving the capital!

I would be really interested to meet others living locally and enjoying the odd trip out. If you're about, please give me a shout!

Mike

Hi, welcome to the forum. You should get signed up to your regional group on here, and see if there are any group rides happening. I'm not sure what region Reading is in though Confused

You've got a very tidy looking bike Thumbs Up

Hi Mike, that does look lovely. Are you going to get the subframe straightened out, or just live with it?

Hello.
Best join the SE Region then, there are a few over your way in the group, and there are usually a couple of ride-outs / meals happening. You just need to be willing to join in... Mr. Green Thumbs Up

Nout wrong with the XJ-6, I have the semi faired version and other than being constantly revvy it's been a fun and reliable workhorse, stupidly easy to handle even when it rains assuming you put good enough tyres on it.

Welcome to BCF and nice bike Very Happy

I used to live at 9 mile ride a few years back.

I'm another one that would be up for a ride out some where at some time as I'm only about 10-15 miles away from there now. As an older rider (40's) I can't be arsed with knee scrapping ride outs. I've probably done about 1k miles recently as I can't be ar5ed with bravado riding and take things as they come ...

I know it well. Nine Mile Ride was a frequent jaunt for me when I bought the bike - getting familiar with its handling and having some fun without too much traffic around. I used to pass out that way for work as well.

Thanks to the rest of you for the welcome. I can understand that the bike isn't everybody's cup of tea but it does the job for me. After a little over 1,500 miles on the thing, I still have no regrets about buying it. It's very easy to handle, a lot of fun to ride and reasonably cheap to run.

Hi, I'm maybe 25 miles or so away from you, in the Wallingford/thame area...
Interested in finding a few riding Buddies, I'm a middle age newbie, not really interested in balls-out honing, just looking for similar people at my experience level for a bit of camaraderie and to share a brew with sometime.....

Yep, me too. More up for a relaxed ride than anything too fast. Probably makes me sound like a right bore but I'm still getting to grips with the bike!

Welcome. Nice bike. I have one and love it. Could use more power but then I did come off a 1000cc to the XJ. That said, shes as nimble as a nimble thing and easy to ride.

As Clangs said, get onto the SE section. Next big ride out is Mayday when we go to Hastings. Welcome to come along.

Quite right. If you push too hard it may result in brown trousers. I've just re-read that but will keep it in for the lols
