 |
|
About 40 minutes ago I was riding out in the rain and I came into a corner and there was mud I didn't see, I lost traction and slid into the verge, I came off the bike and rolled to a comfy landing on the wet grass. The bike scrapped along the verge and came to rest a few feet away, I was only going about 20 into the corner. The mirror came off, indicator bent, gear lever bent into the stand so was a bitch to put into gear, the foot peg is also bent. The bike is a CBR 125R for those who are interested. I have to say I was dreading the push home uphill In the rain, but after some stomping on the gear changer I got it into second and rode home like a champ. I'm not even annoyed that I crashed, I just wish it wasn't broken so I could ride more. I only passed my CBT about a month ago and I've only been riding the bike properly since Wednesday so I'm pretty pleased that my accident was so tame.
Oh and if you want pictures of the bike just ask |

Crashed, shrugged it off, drew a crappy paint diagram. You will do well here.
Just try to learn how to spot these sorts of hazards, my first crash was about 2 months after passing my CBT, I was following my mate on his moped, I was on my MT5, I stopped paying attention to what I was doing because I thought I saw someone I knew, and was going to wave or something, my mate braked for a roundabout, I didn't put the brakes on, front wheel locked, I started to slide towards the back of him, I turned to avoid him, locked wheel slid out underneath me. Snapped the clutch lever perch. Pushed it home 3 miles. I would have just rode without a clutch now, but at the time I didn't realise it was possible. ____________________ Current:1991 Honda MT50 (Soon to be a H100/MTX/MT5 hybrid), 1976 Honda Cub C70, 2005 Honda Varadero 125, 1993 Yamaha TTR250 Open Enduro , 2010 Road Legal Stomp YX140, 1994 Honda CRM 250 MK III, 1999 Cagiva Mito 125, 1992 Honda CB400 Super Four, Stomp T4 230, 1984 Honda H100s, 2009 Sym XS125K

Haha thanks, that's pretty lame. I had some trouble at first starting the bike. It didn't wanna start |

Pics of the bike?
Sounds like you and the bike came out relatively well, downside to this time of year is crap road surfaces.
Only thing maybe worth thinking about when you brake going into corners, if that was a factor. You can get away with front and rear slides, but soon as you start throwing in braking things can go wrong. ____________________ Yamaha MT-03 '08 (crashed)

I have predominantly been using my rear brake and engine braking more haha, then I ease onto the front one that was the same case with the braking up to the crash. There was no panic braking done by me haha, I just thought oh fuck and tried to lean out of it haha. Then when that didn't work I let go of the bike so I didn't get my leg squished probably wasn't the best reaction to the situation and I probably could have done something differently to save me and the bike, but that's in the past now and all I can do is learn from my mistakes. |

Fair play for posting your mishap on here for the gods to judge you.
By your own admission you made a mistake but more importantly, you lived to tell the tale.
Glad you're ok.
Buy new bits and carry on riding. |

Yes more throttle helps low traction situations
It's a little strange using the rear brake first, but then I know someone who only uses his rear brake
In case your wondering the BCF consensus is this is how its done: www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZTS7foJQf8 ____________________ Yamaha MT-03 '08 (crashed)
