Good Morning All,
My bike stopped starting up. I've replaced the battery but as I push start, I hear some clicking sound to the rear right hand side.
The bike has an immobilizer. It's the Datatool Series 2. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.
Replaced one of the ignition fuse and still no good.
Any help desperately needed to get the bike home.

InB4 "push it noob". Is scootay.

Not much to go on there. Kill switch if you have one, side stand cut-off switch, borked starter relay.

Is the new battery fully charged? I mean, do you know that it's fully charged and if so, how?

yes new battery.
I have been advised to look at starter motor or solenoid. Please show me where this might be. I'll have to open the bike.
thanks

Before you go ripping the tupperware off, how about ruling out the easy stuff first?

"New" does not mean "fully charged".

Did you charge it up before fitting it?

Did you check the voltage on it with a multimeter?

Are your electrics all working normally except for the starter?

ok, will battery with a multimeter.
I did check the old one and the multimeter read 12.4 volt. When i crancked the engine, the volts dropped to 6.3volts.
So i ordered a new battery. I will test this and see what happens.

You did remember to put the battery acid into the new battery right?

Not all bike batteries are the sealed variety, and it can be easy to miss the little plastic fluid pack in the packaging.

It does to me too, but fix that and it still won't start if the battery isn't charged.

FYI as Mr Borg says, a Honda S Wing 125 is a scooter. You can't push start a scooter. Something about centrifugal clutch, no actual gears Rolling Eyes

if its the starter solenoid. if you bridge out the two connections on the solenoid with a insulated screw driver . if the motor spins over then its the solenoid at fault . however most small bikes have a starter relay instead which you cant fault find unless you know your way around a multimeter.

Thanks for the advice guys, I've managed to get the bike recovered home and have already started to open it. I'm looking at getting that starter motor out. The AA guy suggested getting that changed as all the symptoms seem to be pointing to that.

So far this is the condition of the starter motor.

I have taken the starter motor to two mechanics who have attempted to crank it using a 12Volt battery. It sparks but does not turn. They have suggested getting a replacement.

open it up, check it out could just be suck or worn out brush. Plenty of brushes and starter motor rebuild kits on ebay. Worse is shorted or open windings, check each coil has the same dc resistance, it should be a low, like a couple of ohms but not quite zero.

According to Haynes, they recommend the length to be between 10mm-10.5mm for the brushes.

https://i1267.photobucket.com/albums/jj543/astroscope/43dd56150c2ce1da66ff709117445c0b_zps273f380e.jpg

Both brushes are almost 10mm!

Compare that with the new ones I bought from Honda!!!

So guys,
is it worth repairing this starter motor, or do I invest in a whole new starter motor?
These motors are £121 from Honda.
Cheers

Can you get all the bits to repair? That magnet bit looks like a non-replaceable item.

astroscope wrote:

That's quite cheap for a starter motor. Guess depends on the bike.

Have you tried any local (or even national) bike breakers? Would be my first try. At least then use for your new bushes.

Wouldn't be surpised if that motor is common to quite few other bikes
so a breakers would be my first stop and as said,
you get to use the new brushes too
