Devitt or RAC branded Devitt are offering me a very good insurance quote. About half of that swinton want from me. Worth using? RAC might save me some pennies on my RAC recovery...

RAC insurance didn't include RAC cover for me.

I'm insured with Post Office, which is another Devitt Company (they were about 20p cheaper than devitt or RAC) and I've had no problems, but then I've had no interactions or had to make a claim.

My feelings as well. I only really care for the legal part (giving me the right to drive) and the theft cover.

I did notice once that Post Office do interest free, so although they may not quite be the cheapest, if you are paying monthly, they often end up cheaper. Watch out for this. Thumbs Up

I've been with devitt about four years

every year the renewal is as good as any quote I can get

they don't hassle me, and are good on the phone

so far.........

No it's not. Post Office are the Post Office, Devitt don't own them or have any financial interest in them at all. Post Office are a corporate partner to Devitt.

People approach the Post Office for insurance, Devitts provide the facilities to quote them.



Anyway - Devitts... Used to be part of the same company as I worked for until they went independent again by virtue of an MBO. They were good, very professional, sound business model. I trusted them - even starred in their advert.

My wife's 125 is insured with them. Service was good, policy is pretty good, price wasn't the cheapest but I'd pay the extra not to be with MCE.

I think insurance companies have us over a barrel anyway. We have to have it by law.

Have used Devitt in the past myself, no issues...didn't make a claim with them or tried to change address - so not a lot to base my judgement on really. Confused

Surprisingly same as Jive I go for the cheapest quote as long as it doesn't come with some silly excess over 500 quid or so.

I don't believe that there is one particular insurance company that is better than the rest. They are all the same in my eyes. I just pay and hope that I won't have to claim.

I agree, but with one exception... I refuse point blank to use BISL regardless of the name the company is trading under (e.g M&S insurance) and thats because of an exceptionally negative experience I had with them

Was with RAC/Devitt and underwritten by Equity, for first couple of years. Been alright, when I had an off, was put through usual accident management firm. Went alright.

On renewal, they quoted me something daft, but on haggling I halved the quote. However on third year, they wouldn't budge on haggling. But shopping round got me a quote at half price, but underwritten by Equity too! Go figure...

So what's the story you ask?

Well, they invited renewal in July at ~£20 more than the rest of the market were doing but it was an auto-renewal policy and I couldn't be hassled with the, umm, hassle, so decided just to let it auto renew.

Unbeknown to me, wifey had paid the year before on a card that she'd since lost whilst abroad, and thus it was cancelled. Of course, she forgot about this and so did I, so didn't realise its significance.

Got a letter on the 13th November from those clowns at the DVLA saying the YBR doesn't appear on the MID. Unfortunately, wifey thought it was junk mail (yeah, from DVLA, complete with big red box saying DO NOT IGNORE THIS LETTER - TO AVOID A PENALTY YOU WILL NEED TO TAKE ACTION IMMEDIATELY......women, honestly Rolling Eyes ). So roll forward to this morning and I've found this letter in the recycling and start to investigate

Chain of events goes like this:
Receive renewal quote - auto invite option noted, ie you need do nothing, it'll auto renew
Day after renewal - this is emailed

Wifey sees it, thinks oh good - policy documentation, files it in her emails, never clicks the links. Note lack of big red warning beacons, or any real evidence that there's anything wrong, and note 'download policy booklet' which would further cement that nothing seemed amiss

Then the MID / DVLA guff comes in, and I go through into the emails and open up the link, and after signing in I'm presented with:

Seriously - WTF. No phone call, no letter through the door, no warning signs at all, just that sitting behind 2 screens of log in on a totally non threatening email.

Yes, she should have downloaded the bloody documents (and I'm annoyed about that, as much as I am her ignoring the letter from DVLCunt) but FFS Evil or Very Mad Rolling Eyes

Luckily, she's not been riding it, and I've only been on it a few times and have riding other bikes anyway, but I'd have been super pissed if either one of us had been busted Confused

So, Devitts, I'm raising a complaint anyway and you can officially go fuck yourselves.

Huh, at least they told you eventually. I got emails from Hastings Direct saying that Mrs Borg's policy would renew, and then that it had been renewed. Lying twunts, the card had expired and they never bothered telling me, nor was there any way of me finding out what card they would use to take payment.

Fortunately I checked the MID straight away and caught them at it. Did you trust a broker? Very Happy

I'd just like to point out at this juncture Roger that I, the model insurance professional, would never trust anyone and thus would never be caught out by something so retarded as this. It just so happens that whilst I'm perfect in 98.26% of situations, the remaining 2.73% of the time has some connection to the actions of my wife and that's where shit gets real.

To be fair, swinton have done this to a friend of mine, and whoever was insuring a girl I was seeing back at uni did this to her, without proper notice, right at the time her cinquecento was found smashed up and ineptly semi-burnt out at the local joyriders dumping ground. It took less than a week for them to pay out, so either they realised she was proper psycho, or they thought better of messing with postgrad law students.

all good, untill one got knicked at work,
4.5months later they still havnt paid out,
