I bought these clocks and set about fitting them to my Mk2 Bandit 600. Since the bike already has an electronic sensor for the speed running off the front sprocket I thought I'd try to incorporate that with the clocks and avoid having an ugly sensor on the front forks.

Well, using this wiring diagram I did it. All you need to do is feed 12v into the speed sensor by linking it to the switched live in the clocks loom, then put a 100ohm resistor on the pink wire and connect that to the trigger wire for the new clocks and it will do the same job as the hall-effect sensor. I have set the pulse to 8 and the circumference to 1400 and it reads a little high but I'll calibrate that in using a GPS on the road. Even better yet the stock Mk2 clocks bracket is drillable to take the original grommets so the clocks can be rubber-mounted with ease.

Everything works, all the wally lights, rev counter, speedo, fuel gauge the whole lot. Here's the wiring diagram for a Mk2 bandit K4:

Clocks fitted to bracket. I know the cutting is a bit rough but I got work in the morning so had a hurry on.

Lots of Suzukis use this same sensor for the speedo and this lets you use it to drive these clocks. Happily the fuel gauge resistance is a perfect match, so I guess that 10ohms full, 90 ohms empty must be a common value for the fuel gauge too.

I have the same type clock unit, but mine has 6 extra leads for a digi gear indicator. Seems to be well made, KPH as well as MHP, (be careful, some come as KPH only). Only thing I don't like is that mine has a water temp light, rather than gauge. As with yours, it does have a fuel gauge, not much good on a carby blade. I'm looking to hook that up as a temp gauge when I get around toit.

Mine also has the gear position wires but not used on the Bandit, nor the water temp light. I use the 'EFI' wire for oil light, it's just an engine fault symbol but it does the job.

One big benefit of doing this conversion on a Bandit is that the stock clocks if they are in good condition will sell for much more than you'll pay for the Chinese ones.

Mk2 Bandit has a fuel level sensor?

Tell me more, I have a 2001 Mk2 Bandit 600 and no fuel gauge or low fuel light?

It was fitted from 2002 onwards. If you got a 2002 tank it would be asimple matter of running two wires to these clocks.

2002... Rolling Eyes

Thanks for the info anyway Thumbs Up My tank is the only thing that could do with replacing so I will keep that in mind if it comes to it.

EDIT:
I just looked at how it displays fuel info... if I had a tank from a 2002+ bike, I'm guessing the fuel display wasn't in the firmware of the 2001 bikes and therefore it wouldn't be able to show anything?

I'm gonna do more guessing and assume there isn't even a place to plug the sensor lines into?

Not on the original clocks no, but all you would do is run a wire to ground and a wire to the fuel gauge input on the chinky clocks and it will work.

It is very very tempting but I somehow like the look of the current clocks haha, to be honest the cost of a new tank would make it a stupid upgrade!

Looks pretty damn good for the money but I'd prefer
it the other way round with a pretty analogue speedo and digital tacho.
Never really had much interest or use for a tacho.
I wonder if they do ones like that?

I don't think you'll find many digital tachos because the revs can rise so much faster than mph. You'll either get a blur of figures or big jumps in the numbers displayed.

That would not work very well.

See what you mean, obviously why they make em like that.
