Won't start after cutting out

hi can anyone help I have a suzuki gp100 that I'm trying to get back on the road but its not playing nice.

Right so when I got it all the wiring was knackered but it ran great, well it ran so I start to sort out the wiring put an ignition in still ran the same. Then got onto the headlight plugged it in started it all the same turn the headlamp on and it dies slowly and won't start again.

I have removed the plug which was wet so cleaned that up and left overnight with plug out then it starts but still same problem when I turn the light on.

Next day ripped apart the carb cleaned everything checked float heights etc etc plumbed it back together started first time left idling got it up to temp set the idle slightly high turn the light same thing won't start again.

I can't thinkeep why Ithe won't start I get that the light van draw to much power but why not start when the light is turned off

Can you start it with the battery removed?

it doesn't yet have battery you think that could be an issue??

I would assume that the light is drawing more than the bikes charging system is able to produce without the presence of a battery and that is killing the spark / electrics.

thanks for the help guys ill get a battery in place and see if that helps.

on another note i have a brand new battery that came with a bottle of acid do i just pour the stuff in or do i have to charge it after filling.

Also do i need a 6v charger or can i get away with using a 12v thanks

Should be good to go with a battery in, 6V charging system isn't exactly great, I imagine actually being ridden it wouldn't slowly die as the charging system will generate more power.

Well you could set up a series of lights or resistors between the charger and battery to try and bring the voltage down, but it'd be safer, easier, and guaranteed to work with a 6V charger.

im going to try some resistors in line with it to bring the voltage down does anyone know what the output of a 6v charger should be is it 6v or slighlty higher

Not sure on the output, but you have to be fairly spot on, too low and it won't charge, too high and you just fry the battery and leave it ruined.

I thought the lights will work without a battery the more you rev it the brighter the lights get. it is recomended to have a battery asin 6v.maybe theres a fault from the plug connecter to the bulb thats stoping it from running.maybe a bare wire shorting it out.
