So, I nipped out for an hour on the bike tonight, when wheeling the bike backwards out of the garage, I noticed a heavy thud. I looked, and assumed it was the side stand, carried on wheeling the bike. (Sometimes the sidestand catches a lip).

Came back home, noticed something on the floor near my garage... a disfigured disc lock. "Oh fuck! Has someone nicked my (other) bike?!"

Nope. It was the thud I felt/heard earlier.

The lock was defeated by the momentum of a ZX9R being wheeled backwards.

It was on the rear disc.

I bet Oxford don't secure their own warehouse with an Oxford lock.

I'm starting to think if people keep insisting buying Oxford then they deserve to have their bike nicked. Especially if they have spent anytime on this forum where Oxford are slated almost daily.

You may as well thread a cheese string through the disc.

file under live and learn

I bought an Oxford Boss Alarm "ultra stong alarm lock"

couldn't get the alarm bit to work, (it emits a beep when locked) has the batteries out to check etc. etc. no beep.

when packing it back in the box to return to the shop I dropped it, it beeped!
has worked fine since then although sometimes it goes off at the slightest vibration (removing things from seat bag) and other times not at all, and although the beep is loud the alarm noise is pathetic and last for 10secs.

Maybe I should try taking a hammer to it to see how easy it come off Sad

it is bright flouro-yellow and looks the part though

People don’t know though and so they’ll continue to sell. They used to have a very good reputation. Therefore when purchasing my gear a few months ago I deliberately bought a few Oxford things (disc lock, cover, small portable chain) rather than less famous brands. Obviously now I’m on here I know better.

Otherwise their stuff is in places like Halford’s so easily purchased by non-internet geeks like us, and so they’ll keep making profits and producing more shite.

The seem to have the sold secure certifications on their stuff.

My msx needs a sold secure lock to have it insured, so it's locked with an oxford boss lock when its parked somewhere fairly secure.

Its locked with a proper lock (almax) and the oxford thingy if I think there is a chance it might be stolen

That looks a bit _too_ sh1t, even for Oxford stuff. I wonder if 'they' make knock-off Oxford stuff? (Hell, you can get fake Casio watches, so I don't doubt this)
Last year, I forgot to take my Oxford screamer off - this happened:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Iru6sniVQI

The 'screamer' bit died in a matter of weeks, but the lock is still going strong to this day, despite being knocked about (and receiving the punishment above). So they've either got a really shoddy QA process where their stuff isn't very consistent, or you've managed to buy a knock-off [of an already cheap product]

So by making you use a shoddy product, they've actually made it more likely that they'll have to pay out on a theft claim?

Stop knocking Oxford stuff!

If it wasn't for loads of numpties using Oxford gear all the bike thieves would be forced to up their game, make an effort and start coming after the rest of us with Almax/Pragmasis and other decent gear... Dunno about you, but I'd always rather park next to the bike with a dangly Oxford necklace chain and Oxford clothes peg on the disc.

I'm guessing poor QA on this one, not only is the pin bent but the metal is cracked!

I realise Oxford isn't great I mainly bought it for the alarm aspect for when it's in the garage.

Unfortunately, the MSX is fairly nickable, unlike the other 2 bikes. I need to make sure I'm covered if it does happen
