Today I go to a local Ducati dealer and test drive the 899 once again and this time I am looking to buy!

They offer me £2k in PX for my bike which I think is a pretty OK deal.

I give them my bike, £1,500 cash and pay £149 a month on the PCP deal for 36 months. Free Termignoni exhausts at the minute thrown in too!!

So I am ready to sign on the dotted line...... then I think "Oh I better check the insurance".

My current CBR = £260 per year TPFT (no security declared)
Ducati 899 = £2,700 per year TPFT (immobiliser, tracker, datatag and almax declared)

There goes my dream Middle Finger

You forgot the £6k final payment... Or I suppose you could give the bike back after the 3 years.

What CBR do you have? A CBR 125? 600f? 600rr? I'm guessing you're a newish rider? Any sport bike is out for me too as a new rider, cbr600f/street triples are £500 fully comp but a Daytona 675 is £1500, don't even want to think how much 12 grands worth of ducati sports bike would be Laughing

Just ran a quote as a laugh... Only MCE will touch me for the low, low price of £4406 fully comp Laughing

They couldn't rustle up some sort of matey-mate insurance?

They won't be shifting many bikes if that's indicative.

Blimey! That's ridiculous. Wonder how much it'd cost me!

*checks*

£377 for the 899! 765 for a 1199. Might go and buy one of each.

I get silly FC quotes for new Ducati 899, 1199.. both between £1500-2000, also £800 FC for 2013 Ducati 848. No, thanks Rolling Eyes

Fireblade FC is £430

Tell me about it. Refused insurance on a 4 year old VFR1200 by every insurance company. I've been riding for nearly 20 years and never had a 'fault' accident.

How on Earth can that be? So who will they actually insure on one then? Confused

The whole thing is really getting to me.

I have worked my socks of this year in order to get a promotion and warrant getting this bike. More importantly I got the Mrs to agree Shocked

Then to be told the insurance payments are going to be more than how much I will be paying for the bike....

Total utter BS!!

Obscene!

Quoted just over a grand fully comp with alarms etc. My Falco costs me about £180 and has no alarm. This is with a garaged bike!

No point looking at getting a Ducati any time this side of 50 then!

Is that quote JUST with you present insurance company? Have you looked on price comparison sites at setting up with a new insurer?

Unfortunately insursnce is a huge factor sometimes in determining what we can and cant have...it really should have been checked well before you going in to sign up for one.

When i got my 848 in 2010 the insurance wasn't bad at all, it was about the same as i was paying for my 2001 R6 i had before. but that was nearly 5 years ago.
