So i havent lived there for about 15 months, when i left it was about 1.32 a litre.

The price of Oil was at around $110-120 a barrel also.

Somebody is taking the piss somewhere as the prices are still sky high.

Prices went from $3.70 a gal (3.78litres) here to $2.40 and getting lower everyday with the continuing fall of oil prices.

Why arnt the UK passing on the savings, or at least taking their fucking time with it.

Too busy bending over touching their toes?

It's difficult to complain and to get things done for the people in the UK which is not for away from Dictatorship ...

They have definitely come down after the MPs gave them a bit of stick for not passing on the savings.

I filled up yesterday at 119.9p, the premium stuff is down to 124.9p. Yet the BP just up the road are 128.9p and 135.9p. Definitely on the way down.

Silly question. You need fuel, we pay it because there is no other option.

My regular esso/tesco has come down by 10p over the last couple of months, it was down to 117.9 when I rode past tonight.

They still have to pay the massive fines for that oil rig that blew up state side....

Also the fall in oil prices (in $) has coincided with a fall in the value of the £ against the $ (from ~$1.70 during the summer to ~$1.55 today), which makes the fall in the price of oil in £ a bit less dramatic.

Compare that drop to the price of oil and I bet it's a much slower drop. Oil could halve in price in month or 2, and as long as the cost at the pump goes down a couple of pence every now and again, we're all like 'oh, fuel's getting cheap!' and we think no more about it without actually looking much more into it.

If you pay £200,00 to Tony Blair, he might be able to give an after dinner speech about the subject, he's the Middle East peace envoy you know.

George Bush: 'I am driven with a mission from God'. God would tell me, 'George go and fight these terrorists in Afghanistan'. And I did. And then God would tell me 'George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq'. And I did."

"And now, again, I feel God's words coming to me, 'Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East'. And, by God, I'm gonna do it."

Because of Taxes imposed by the Government. Yet they are quick to criticise the oil companies... Rolling Eyes

**EDIT**Apparently, it is currently 57p per litre tax, plus VAT. So around 80p per litre goes to the Government.

Was surprised when travelling in Europe this summer that the UK fuel prices were one of the lowest. Italy was the most expensive of the places I visited. Although possibly made worse by the pound to euro exchange rate which is slightly better now I think.

From memory fuel duty is 59.9p a litre. At £1.32 there is 22p vat, so total tax is 81.9p and the oil cost / profit / distribution / etc is 50.1p. With current price of £1.17.7 that is 19.7p vat and total tax of 79.6p, with the rest coming to 38.1p. Roughly a 25% drop. OK, the dollar oil price has dropped a lot more, but some of the costs are fixed (ie, running the fuel station, delivery costs), and the pound has dropped a bit

All the best

Keith

Depressingly that logic seems applied to too many things in the UK

Working for an oil major it gets my back up when the government criticise the oil companies for the price of petrol.

Think about it - The oil company has to find the oil, get it out of the ground, transport it to the refinery, refine it, transport it to the distribution centre, distribute it to petrol stations and sell it.

Within that it has to make a profit as does all the parties along the chain.

Our lovely government come along and do nothing for about 3/4 of the total price going into their pocket, and they have the audacity to complain about the oil companies. Evil or Very Mad

As my BiL (who has worked in the oil industry for the last 40 years) pointed out to me recently, a bit of mental arithmetic will tell you that UK petrol prices have dropped in line with the barrel price of crude over the past several months, allowing for the percentage that the government take.

If people want to do something about what we pay for petrol, get off your arses and do a proper job of lobbying the government to drop their pernicious oil taxes.

Reminds me when Gordon Brown demanded lower oil prices from OPEC to help the "struggling families" in the UK. Whilst at the same time raking in record income from the tax on fuel (the higher the price, the greater the tax income) and refusing to cut his greedy majority cut at all.

Oil price goes up, petrol price goes up.
Tax goes up, petrol price goes up.

Oil price goes down, petrol price stays the same.

Oil price goes back up, petrol price goes up.

1p a litre tax saving, petrol goes down by 1p a litre
(which is completely unnoticeable because that would be a fuel economy difference of a fraction of an mpg, environmental aspects like air temperature and wind direction make a bigger difference.)

etc etc

Until the time nears for a General Election, and the politicians go vote fishing in a bid to stay in power by appearing to care about the publics interests, so they lay into the oil companies, and the price drops, very slightly.

Then the oil price goes up again, petrol price will go up.

Low and behold, a budget deficit... lets up the fuel duty.

and you get the idea.

I found a receipt in an old jacket for 79.9p/litre from when I was learning to drive. I can't even remember it being sub £1/litre

Maybe it would be fairer to tax fuel as a percentage? But then it would work out around 150% once you take VAT into account too...

Gulf garage near me is 1.16p a litre at the moment. I found myself becoming all dewy eyed and grateful. Then I remembered I was still being ripped off, just ever so slightly less.

When I passed my test it was 0.75p a litre. Sad

I converted my Merc to LPG, and currently pay 51p to 55p per litre - but some service stations charge as much as 80p per litre!

Cost price is the same, Tax is the same, so the greedy bastards are the service stations.

This is the main reason i garaged the S2000 and bought the Aygo. S2000 was costing me the neck end of £22 a day to commute in, the Aygo is £8 for the same journey.

Ins Grp 1 and 0 RFL sweetens it even further. No use fighting the system, may as well play it as best you can.

I heard UK petrol prices described as "The Rocket and the Feather"

When oil prices rise - petrol price shoots up like a rocket
When oil prices fall - petrol prices drop like a feather

Which I thought was quite apt.

I remember back when I was 16, I could completely fill my moped, buy a mars bar and still have change from a £5. Good times Very Happy
