Hey y'all.

Is there a simple fix that will make my choke stay in the 'on' position? I am finding it slides back down to off too soon on occasions (normally when I am rolling down my road to bump start it).

Fanx.

A mate of mine keeps his keys on a lanyard, which he then loops through the bit between the choke lever and the rest of the switchgear - it provides enough resistance to keep the choke open as long as he needs it for.

the choke cables usually have a twist and lock feature...........as it goes mine jammed solid last week but still got it to start....it now has a new cable ( oe cable has plastic body so its gunna break as soon as I look at it!! ) but the lads bike has had a clothes peg ( wood ) cabletied to the h/bar which he uses to "hold" the choke on whilst the eng warms up........his bike, his problem so his bill!! 8o)

little blue pills no good for this problem........ :D

Choke mechanism on one of my bikes isn't of the twist-lock variety. The housing for the plunger has a screw cap that when tightened adds friction to the plunger's shaft.

In short; Tried twisting yer cap?

If this post hasn't given you a semi, it's quite normal and I apologise.

Pull it out and bend the stem. That'll stop it going back in Smile

Laughing

I had a damn good yank of it this morning to make it as proud as I could, threw in a 'twist to the right' instead of the usual left, to maybe confuse it. Even had a look at what Pat said about the twisty cap thing - mine is tighter than a ducks arse.

Still slipped back in before I managed to bump start it 40m down the road. (I then pull over at the junction, keep it pulled with my left hand whilst I start it in the normal fashion)

Oh. No starting problem, I just roll down the hill when I am on early starts so I wake other peoples neighbours and not mine. I bump just by the junction and I roar off into the distance.

And this thread was to try and fix the choke mech. Confused

When I struggle to keep it up, I just get Mrs Nobby to fondle my bollocks. Works a fucking treat.

Elastic band looped on screen brace then hooked to choke slider.

A while nback i posted this on the zxr forum, it might apply to your check aswell.

Quote:
Today, while i was cleaning the left switchgears because my indicators were being complete arseholes, I spotted a small bit of plastic inside the switchgear housing on the back half.

It is located next to the choke slider guide.
a small screw is holding a small metal plate on it.
Unscrew it, take out the small plastic bit and clean the spring, the plastic bit and the recess where it sits.
Put everything back together and check out how the choke lever will stay in place.

You're welcome.

She makes me hard too but with her party trick tongue thingy. Not relevant to my choke issue though. Sad

On one of my old Honda's the choke had a plastic nut underneath, mine kept doing as you said but stopped when I tightened the nut
