ANPR really means just the bit that reads the number plate, but is used to mean the whole shebang... So... 'ANPR' connects to a database. The 'flag up' is audible and visible automated warning, but... They can use it to get all the details any time, including by entering the plate manually.

See the history on the right? Well, that's everything accessible, although not necessarily as prominently as if it set off the automated warning. ____________________ current: ducati monster 750

Other than posting pictures from the Sunday Times, do any of you actually know what the various pandas and patrol cars in use by various Farces can actually do? ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

On those police camera wow what a crash type shows they appear to automatically read plates and flag up no tax/mot/insurance and any other markers (stolen/drugs etc.)
If it cannot read the plate that also brings up an alert, I think this is why bikers tend to get pulled at those 'random' check points. Either that or its cos I'm black... ____________________ Yamaha MT-03 '08 (crashed)

I was given a lift off a copper not long after my crash, so got to see all the ANPR detection stuff working.
It pretty much scans every plate and every now and then refreshes with another, just giving general info as already mentioned.
Every now and then, the screen would flash with red bits and a little red info thing would show up under the offending plate with a snippet of info. A few I saw were "disqualified named driver" and "stolen".
This then stayed on the screen until the copper pressed a button (touchscreen) to make it carry on with what it was doing. I told him I wouldn't mind going on a blue light run but he wasn't allowed to so instead he had to let people driving stolen vehicles carry on
The system is flawed though. He mentioned how my dads car was uninsured as we drove passed it and I mentioned that my street is a private road anyway. I mentioned it to my dad who then had a go at his insurers as it was renewed about 2 month prior
It annoyed him more as he'd had an accident and only found out after that they hadn't renewed it, meaning he was technically not insured, after he rang them up telling them too a few years ago. Luckily their recorded phone messages proved they messed up with that one! ____________________ Bandit 600 - deaded |

I'm not talking out of my arse
I think it was down to the fact that they'd need permission to have me onboard while performing police duties plus the fact there were 2 coppers in the front and me in the back with a ton of gear (high vis jackets, white traffic copper hats etc) so there wouldn't have been any room to make an arrest anyway! ____________________ Bandit 600 - deaded |
