After spending 2 years with my nexus 4 now it is time to move on.
It's not her, it's me. I'm just bored of her.

All I want is the best phone on the market. Narrowed down my options to
Nexus 6 (huge but I can get used to)
Droid Turbo (import tax ain't too bad)
Sony Z3

Any suggestions?

Cheers.

If the Z3 is an improvment on the Z2, go for it!

I've had the Z2 for a few months now and it's epic!

Considered a Note 4? I had a shaky start with mine but I'm starting to really like it now I have it set up how I like it.

Reception is great. Picks up wifi and 4G in the thick-walled bathroom and streams YouTube/Spotify in there where no other phone or tablet I've ever had could. Great screen etc.

I stick mine to the windscreen (Arkon mount) of my work van running CarOO dashcam software in the background, satnav in the foreground and music playing also in the background. It rapes the battery as you'd expect unless it's plugged in but it handles all that multitasking just fine.

One Z1 gripe is that the headphone jack is uncovered which means over time dust/dirt/whatever can end up in the jack enough to mean the jack doesn't connect properly.

Sending it back to Sony is a PITA, one answer is of course to use a bluetooth headset but the handsets still needs everything to work properly for resale value when my it next gets upgrades.

+1 for Nexus 5. I had an N4 and even though the N5 is over a year old its still a strong contender.

Google have recently stopped manufacturing nexus 5s though so may be paving the way for another that's not as phablet as the N6?

If Nexus 5 is on the cards, consider LG G2 - Nexus 5 but with bigger battery. Been using mine since Nov last year - enjoy it.

One positive of the Z2 is that the headphone jack is uncovered, meaning you don't have to mess about with a flap every time you use it Smile.
But then I look at the waterproofing as a safety net, rather than a feature to try out every time I've got a pint glass in front of me Razz.

Overall, really like my Z2. Z3 is only a very slight improvement, so also worth considering the Z2 if you can get a much better deal.

I have the Sony Xperia Z3, they also do a compact version, going to be honest, it's amazing. It's the best phone i have ever used.

It's been the same on various Sony phones I've had before. The answer is a Bluetooth headset but the battery life is a bit crap on the ones which don't have to be plugged into either a battery pack or the phone itself for power to recharge.

Phones & pint glasses only work then neither of them are mine. Thumbs Up

The touchscreen on the Z1 doesn't work when under water which is a bit limiting.

My Z2 and the waterproof Sony I had before have both been fine, but both have been (for me) looked after ok.
I do actually seperately want to get some bluetooth headphones just to save hassle when cycling/running/motorbiking (though the latter more hassle due to helmets). Did get some cheap ones, but they weren't very comfortable at all.
Did keep an eye on the Amazon black Friday stuff, but no amazing deals.

Talking of the headphone socket on the Xperia Z's. I notice once mine was wet, the phone didn't recognise the headphones and still played out of the integral speakers.

Once try, all was fine. Also found, like Ste, you get lint (not Lindt mmmm) and fluff stuck in there... A jewelers screwdriver or cocktail stick is pretty useful and clear out any debris which might be hindering the insertion of jacks.

I've tried the cockstick and screwdrivers fixing methods. The headphone socket behaved itself for a short time after that when I'd also used compressed air for extra lint removal. When it stopped working again the next repair was holding it under the tap in the kitchen so that the water went straight into the headphone socket. After that it behaved itself for a few weeks. Laughing

And then it stopped working again so I decided against any more DIY repair attempts. Laughing
